If Luna were honest she hadn’t slept on train back to Dorset like she said she was going to nor had she been able to catch a wink in her small bedroom at Rolf’s house. She was far too excited about the prospect of seeing Barney’s farm and getting to milk cows. It was all she could think about! Cows, ducks, farms and hanging around a strange blonde boy who seemed to like animals as much as she did and didn’t think she was a complete and utter freak.
She was running on ice mice and adrenaline when she showed up around noon. Sure they’d planned on hanging around that afternoon but there she didn’t see any harm in showing up a bit early. He was expecting her at some point! It wasn’t as if she really thought she’d be interrupting anything. She managed to apparate close enough to his farm and walked the rest of the way in thinking this was going to be a brilliant time! Having his own farm had to make him the coolest person in the world. He had a farm! She wondered if the Ministry would have allowed her to have a mini-zoo one day. She would have liked to live amongst the animals herself. Rolf liked studying them but he wasn’t keen on keeping them around as pets.
She had a small bag over her shoulder with her notes covered in drawings of the various animals she’d seen but it was her clothing that made her look unusual and a souvenir she’d picked up of a bear carved out of ivory for him. He had been curious and supportive. It felt an appropriate touch. She wore baggy overalls with an old t-shirt supporting saving some endangered species of animals because that was how she thought people who lived on farms were supposed to dress. She didn’t want to look out of place amongst the animals after all. Her blonde hair that often looked completely untamed was pulled into messy pig tails. She looked more twelve than her age. The only thing missing was food over her face.
She could hear sounds. Farm sounds! She was certain she was hearing some a moo coming from somewhere. She wanted to go and investigate but manners told her that it would be impolite. Instead she found the buzzer for his door and hit it repeatedly as if it was Morse Code waiting for someone to come and entertain her.
