"A woman," she replied, placing both halves of her chip on the very edge of the plate - waiting for them to cool a little longer. For some reason, she could never explain why, she wasn't a fan of sauce. She just liked her chips just the way they were, but she was not averse to chicken salt, and by the smell of them, they were beer battered and sprinkled with just that.
Too busy contemplating the way she liked her food, Demelza was oblivious to the struggle with the too hot chips going on across the table, so she sipped at her drink instead. "She's my brother's ex-wife, and she just likes to taunt for all the wrong reasons. I can't stand her, but I didn't want to have an arguement with her so I thought it would be better if I just avoided her entirely. It's easier that way? I mean, I'm not being a coward, I just don't feel like having yet another arguement tonight."
"Yeah, I thought that might be the case! Did you burn your tongue? I always do that with coffee and hot chocolate and then I have to explain that I'm not crying, I'm just in pain - but that it's okay, don't worry, it's not a big deal."
She really needed some people in her life who didn't fuss so much. And possibly find a reign for her tongue.
