been the upperside of down
Who: Rae and Ezra
Where: Around one of the campfires
When: After the evening meal
Unless the temperatures were downright cruel and snow covered everything in sight, it wasn't that rare to find Rae with one or two blankets on her back sitting around one of the many firepits after dinner, once the sounds of the world seemed to die out. Or maybe it was all the rush of the day dying out that made it seem more silent. Either way, Rae enjoyed these moments after the day was effectively done, telling stories, talking about each other's days, listening to someone or another sing and play whatever old rickety instrument they had become proficient in at some point.
It had been a good while since she had felt like it, what with all the cold and everything that had happened with Rika. Tonight she felt like it, however, and found herself a nice spot against a tree. Not exactly at the circle proper, as she didn't feel as sociable as all that - probably the day's work tiring her out - but not entirely separate from it either. She was listening more than participating in conversation, though she offered a quip here and there where appropriate. With the blanket wrapped closely around her, Rae twirled the mysterious pendant she had been given anonymously between her fingers as she listened to the others, feeling eyes heavier each minute even despite the chill in the air. Firepits made her feel like that; her mother had said when she and her sister had been babies the secret to putting them both to sleep was holding them against her chest, one in each arm, sitting by a fire.
Leaning back, Rae closed her eyes for a moment, appreciating the localized heat source, the company, even the chill against her face. Apparently, some things never changed.
