19 April 1979 Characters: Amelia Bones and OPEN Setting: The Ministry lunch room, early afternoon on Sunday (Amelia is pulling overtime, as she often does) Summary: Amelia is in search of the substance of all life: Coffee.
Amelia was likely more fond of coming in on weekends than she should be (especially since most Ministry employees avoided it like the plague). She was always on top of the list for any necessary overtime; weekend work usually found her sifting through paperwork and filing it all away as required, rather than actually doing anything interesting in the field. It was boring and a bit tedious certainly, but no more so that sitting at home reading, with no real company beyond having George curled in her lap, or tea at her parent's house for several hours on Saturday. Dead as it was in the DMLE on a Sunday, crime didn't sleep, and there were still plenty of people meandering around with ink on their fingers and bemused looks on their faces.
Shortly after noon she found herself having difficulty focusing, and caught herself falling asleep twice. That was an indication that her coffee cup needed replenishing. As she stood up her stomach gurgled. That was an indication that she hadn't actually eaten yet today. Sandwich time it was, then! Amelia made her way to the cafeteria where she picked up a ham and swiss on rye, and a cup of dark roast (black with two sugars, just the way she liked it). Standing behind a frail old witch she knew to be from Magical Games and Sports (who was counting out each individual knut onto the counter in front of the cashier, and ever so slowly), Amelia laid her sandwich and coffee on a tray on the counter, and bent over to tie one of the loose laces on her trainers.
