CHARACTERS: Ludo Bagman and [OPEN FOR WHOEVER!]
SETTING: 30 April 1979 - Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour, 6 PM
SUMMARY: In an effort to forget completely about anything important going on, Ludo Bagman gorges himself on ice cream sundaes as comfort food and thus, retains his daft manboy state of things.

Ludo lived his life for the most part leaning on his talents in Quidditch as a crutch. When that failed, he reminded people of how amazing he was at his sport. His Plan C was Otto, and thus, he had a rather comfortable set-up when trouble arose in his life. However, when something external threatened that, and he didn't have anything to rely on, he took out his worry and trepidation in other ways.

Currently, ice cream held that burden.

If he had the self-insight to examine his pattern of behaviour, he might attribute it to the comfort of ice cream; the childhood treat it was, how sugar and chocolate and fattening food in general seemed to calm the mood, how it took him back to better days. Of course, Ludo being Ludo, he only just focused on what was directly in front of him, and at the moment that happened to be a triple-decker, butter brickle and chocolate sundae with rainbow sprinkles and hot fudge.

It did the trick, that was for damned sure.

For the time being, he seemed to be doing okay. He was a bit shaken up by the news, especially after reading it in the paper a day late - of course, he'd only read the sports section for years. Ludo just didn't think about heavy things, and usually blocked them all out. He didn't want to let it affect his game, and in his opinion, the slightest issue could tip his focus. Quidditch being his life, and the only thing he was really any good at, he simply pushed everything away.

Eating his feelings in the form of ice cream seemed to do the trick. Sitting in the corner of the ice cream parlour and hunched over his towering sundae, this was the best distraction he could think of.

Dorcas had honestly never been happier to see the end of a month before in her entire life. The Daily Prophet had been completely abuzz since the news of the breech broke to the wizarding world a few days ago, which made her job as a reporter all the more difficult. She decided that if she had to deal with one more letter to the editor or someone pulling her aside to give her their view on it she was going to hit something (or someone -- she didn't mind which). She just didn't want to think about it anymore. It seemed silly, after all it was her job to ponder on these things and report them, but since her conversation with Dearborn on the journals she just didn't have the energy for it anymore. It was this lack of energy that foujnd her pulling herself down Diagon Alley late in the afternoon after she clocked out of work, her sweet tooth aching for something only Florean Fortescue could provide. When in doubt, ice cream was always the answer.

Dorcas entered the semi-crowded shop shortly after 6PM, a look of concentration on her face as she tried to juggle her camera with her bag as she tried to fish her wallet out from the very bottom. A double chocolate waffle cone would be a perfect way to end this day, she decided. After grabbing her order and a small lemonade from the cashier, she drifted to the back of the parlour for a place to sit before she spotted a familiar face out of the corner of her eye.

"Why, who is this!" Dorcas grinned, dumping her belongings on to the table in front of Ludo before she took it upon herself to take a seat across from him. There was a reason she was regarded as one of the most in-your-face recruits at the Prophet and she had covered many a-Quidditch game in the past. Taking a bite out of her ice cream, her speech was muffled as she swallowed around the cold goop. "Didn't know famous Quidditch blokes had the time for sweets."

In his own ice-cream focused state of meditation, or simply just zoning out because he really didn't have anything much to think about, Ludo seemed to snap to attention as he noticed someone sitting down across from him. Noticing the familiar face, he smiled brightly and leaned back in his chair casually, as if to make up for the startled expression he initially had.

Grinning, he shook his head and replied, "Course we do! That is, after practice and when we have no games or anything. Or maybe we don't, and I simply make time for it. Ice cream time is second on my list of priorities."

"And what about you? Escaping the Prophet for a bit?" he asked. "If anyone needs a bit of ice cream, I reckon it's you all."

Dorcas laughed and took another small bite of her ice cream cone, pink tongue drifting over to catch the excess that dripped down the sides. Oh, chocolate. Her delicious, cold therapy. Where would she be without it? It made the sticky fingers and sugar rush worth it. Bringing her attention back to Ludo, she leaned forward when he spoke, her cheery grin still in place. "Oh, yeah? Kind of seems detrimental to the staying healthy thing, though. Don't you blokes have to work off all this sugar so it doesn't go right to your thighs? ...Might be a fate shared by us girls, though." Quirking an eyebrow at him, she tilted her head to the side and regarded him with a curious look. "Only second? What comes first?"

"Oh, Merlin. Escaping is certainly the word for it. I've got to tell you, I've never been happier to see the weekend. It's so close and I can almost taste it. I have to come in on Sunday morning for a few hours, but a good day off is definitely what I need," Dorcas replied, nodding. She heaved a deep sigh and shook her head as though that alone would remove the desire from her mind. "Everything's been so hectic lately with the muggle issue, but news is news, you know? So long as people are doing stupid shit, I am there to report on it. Anyway, depressing bollocks aside, what have you been up to today? Can't have spent the whole day eating ice cream."

Chocolate was good, but Ludo was discovering how good butter brickle, even if he really didn't know what butter brickle consisted of, was. Something about it just heightened the taste of the chocolate, added a subtle aftertone, accentuated the creaminess and mellow darkness. . .

Or the colors almost matched his team uniform. That could be been a possibility.

"Nothing's healthier than balance, I say," Ludo said in his usual loud tone, almost as if he was speaking to the whole shop and not just Dorcas in front of him. "Some of both is the way to go. And there's only so much green leafy vegetables and lean protein a man can take," he chuckled, tucking back into his sundae. "Well maybe, but for me, it goes straight to the belly. And that's nothing a few sit-ups can't fix," he drawled, sounding cocky and confident in himself.

"Well Quidditch! The team! Of course! Though I find they're related, because ice cream soothes the nerves from swinging a bat around all day, I figure." Ludo smiled, and said with a mouthful of chocolate ice cream, "Balance, really."

Ludo looked at Dorcas with wide, blue, almost childlike and innocent eyes, showing just how unprepared he was for all this serious news in the world. . .especially if it took away from so much focus on Quidditch! He gave her an empathetic look and simply said with a laugh, "Forget about it, let the ice cream melt away the troubles. That's why I'm here! A literal sweet escape."

He perked up a bit as she asked about his day, always thrilled to - what else - talk about himself. "Nah, I just got here. The usual. Practice from 8 to 5, drills and going through plays and manoeuvres, strength-training. Everything undoing this ice cream I'm putting back into the body, but that's what tomorrow's for! And if you're as busy as you make it sound, you'll probably burn off all the calories too, so. . .no thighs!" he said, trying to put a positive spin on things.
