CHARACTERS: Alice Longbottom & [open!]
SETTING: DMLE Training Room, April 29th around 7:30 p.m.
SUMMARY: Alice indulges the trainees because she can't handle sitting at her desk and listening to everyone have the same conversation about the incident on Monday.

As a general rule, Alice tried to be at her desk as little as possible. It wasn't a horrible desk. In fact it was situated in a good location in the office and served as a place to track her open cases or for people to leave her messages. There were times when she had to be there sorting through paperwork or compiling case files, but paperwork was better suited for her meal break or some lazy morning she had off. Tonight was no exception.

Everyone in the department seemed to be having the same conversation about the incident on Monday about the muggle with the gun. Alice was just grateful that she wasn't asked to take lead on the case. The whole thing made her skin crawl as it was filled with unknown possibility. She did her best to hide it and not let it hinder how she preformed her job or acted in the roles she had taken on, but the fact was there lurking beneath the surface. Casting unforgiveables she could handle, dealing with firearms and muggles prodded at her basic instincts in a way that left uneasy.

And when she was on edge there was really only one place to go to find that sense of balance: the training room. Even after their hours for the days, one or two always lagged behind desperate to learn something more that would make them stand out over the others. Alice knew this because she was one of them all those years ago. Of course then the training room was a constant sense of frustration and stress, feeling as if every move she made was watched and criticized. Now, she was that stressful force looming over the trainees. Perhaps if she was a bigger person she wouldn’t have taken delight in that slight air of superiority, but it as a right of passage. One that they needed to endure because as tough as the training was, the real job was even worse because then second chances and do-overs were far in between.

Plus they were always keen on a duel or some sort of more physical spar if they were feeling daring. Alice had found one of those tonight and was thankful for a means to channel her emotions in a productive way. Pushing herself back on her feet, the trainee laying out of breathe on the mat beneath her, Alice did all she could to not smile. A mix of adrenaline and pride over the victory (no matter how small), she rose with a clear head. "Alright you lot should get out of here, go home, get get some sleep while you can.”

As the trainees shuffled out of the room, Alice tucked her wand away. She looked over the room once more, making sure everything was in place before she turned and finally acknowledged the person lingering by the door.
