It rains candy outside of the diner! I have been assaulted by toffee! Why could it not be marshmallow?

It's that time of the year again. On Monday, I'll be having my annual Thanksgiving dinner. It'll be at the Ruby this year. Everyone is welcome! Daniel, I know you're coming!

The menu will be similar to that of the last couple years - .

Does anyone mind if I check the Titanic kitchen and dining rooms for supplies? Maybe I can find some fancy new dishes to serve dinner on.

Dmitri, Max and Isabel, I would especially like to see you there. I have some happy news to share.

Well...this is new. I don't think I've ever been here before.

I have come to the conclusion that Cake Vodka mixed with Root Beer tastes fantastic!

I want to do something to honour Daniel and Max. I miss them both very much already.

One of my favourite dates with Daniel was when we went through a door and helped feed residents of a homeless shelter. Is there a door still open? Does anyone know if there would there be a shelter or a soup kitchen, or something similar where I could volunteer?

For Max, I was thinking of adding a special dish to the menu at the Ruby, and the lunch menu at the diner too if no one objects. Maybe one of her cupcake recipes.

For now, I won't be in the Ruby as often as I normally am, and there may be a buffet instead of service.

Private to Anders and Dmitri.

Do you want to have a cupcake and wine night to remember Max?

Happy Canada Day!

I'll be serving indulgent special dishes today.

For breakfast, right now at the Ruby - A breakfast 'poutine' - roasted potatoes, cheese curds, bacon, caramelized onions and red peppers, topped with an egg and hollandaise sauce.

For lunch at the diner:
Montréal-style smoked meat sandwiches
Brent's favourite. Chili cheese dogs.
Split pea soup.

For dinner at the Ruby: Tourtière

Desserts at the Ruby - Butter tarts
Blueberry bang belly
Nanaimo bars.
And possibly homemade timbits. If I don't eat them all as I make them.

Regular menu items are still available.

So, uh, I kind of figured while I was here I could..maybe start doing things I wanted to do in the first place. Like, uh, learning new languages. I mean, you can't really..go that far in life with just knowing 'where is the library' in the Spanish.

Oh fuck off, shit island.

Oh my gosh. I look like a friend of mine from home.

I may need some help getting things off high shelves at the Ruby and at the diner for the time being. Any volunteers? Max? Dmitri?

Filtered to Dmitri, Julie, and Max.

I hear we're closing for a week and having a remodel.

Would you like to get together at my apartment? We can share memories of Isabel and catch up.

My café from Dog River has arrived on the island. I'd like to open it, but I don't want any of you to feel like I'm abandoning the diner. I'm sure we can work something out.

In memory of Isabel, Franny, Eddie and Logan the Diner will be closed. After a week, I want to remodel it to resemble a southern country kitchen.

If there's anyone that wants to help the remodel, let me know.

I built an orrery.

We went through some strange times. I was gone for what felt like years, but Daniel said it was only minutes. I went back to my home town and we were really going through a rough patch there too. Everything worked out though.

Has everything worked out here? Does anybody need help with anything?

Any special requests for lunch? I'm not great with directions, but this is where the diner is now. attached pictures showing the way from the apartments to the diner

I was talking to Cristiano the other day about his world, and that got me thinking about how many different cultures and backgrounds we have on the island. I think it would be good to get know about other places. Maybe we could have multicultural nights. Not every night, just every couple weeks, or one a month. We could do themes. Like one month could be a potluck where people bring foods from their homes. Or a music night, where we teach each other different songs and dances. Or a technology night, where we share different types of technology from different places. And so on. It could be fun.

What does everyone think?

Feb. 14th, 2016

This seems peculiar sort of holiday. Some people pleased about it, others downright miserable and a lot of innuendo What is purpose? Or if there is no purpose, then reason? Religion? Tradition? There are many more holiday being observed here than I know of.

Okay, where is the meeting place of "bloggers anonymous"? Everything is creepily quiet here. Even no "look how utterly adorable my kid is with a spoon in his nose"-posts. I am disappointed in you kid's bloggers! Sookie, where is your regular pie update? Where are the beach party invites? Are people still alive out there or have you all been eaten by sharks?

Is anyone else bugged that there is currently no door open? We are completely locked in. It makes me feel a touch claustrophobic. I like being able to leave even though it's fake. It enables me to pretend that I have a choice, at least for a little while.

Anyone out there who wants to chat and is still awake?

Katherine and her four am rambles.

The snow never disappeared this quickly back home. It's made getting to and from the diner easier, but a part of me still expects to find a river of slush somewhere or some other problem. How is everyone doing? Is everything okay?

Is anyone running classes? Or willing to run classes? I need to stop thinking would like to learn something new, please.

Forward dated to the morning

I'm missing time. I even missed Christmas. I have this strange feeling that I was sad, but I can't remember why. Was I a kid again?

I had wanted to make a special Christmas lunch. How about a New Year's Day brunch instead? Not too early of course. It would be at the regular lunch time.

Daniel, I'm so sorry. I'll find a way to make it up to you. I'm sorry to everyone at the diner too.
