Sympathy is the most basic type of 'magic' (that's a stupid term. It's more energy manipulation but I'll keep it simple so you understand what I'm saying) learned by anyone who wants to pretend they're an arcanist. It binds together two entities in order to have their effects mirror each other. It requires a mental state in which one believes a thing to be true, while the other part of the mind knows that it's not. That's called splitting your alar, but it's not important for now.

There are laws that govern sympathy. Of course the concepts themselves are not easy to grasp.. and I don't expect most of you to understand it.

First - the Doctrine of Correspondence - similarity enhances sympathy which basically claims that the more things resemble each other, the stronger the link will be.

Second - the Principle of Consanguinity - a piece of a thing can represent the whole of a thing. It's like statistics when you make vapid generalizations about a population based on a small part. Only, with actual physical markers instead of unlikely maths.

Third - the Law of Conservation - energy cannot be created or destroyed. Merely lost or found, which leaves the sympathist in need to search for more energy sources. You should try this, it's a good way to get yourself killed by not knowing what you're doing.

But otherwise that would be why I have found myself tied to the most vapid creature I have ever met.

How about the only people that get to say anything about the community are the ones that actually contribute to it? Just a suggestion.

Since there was a misunderstanding of what I meant, I'll clarify.

I am not in any way trying to tell people what they can and can not think or say. I am simply asking that if you don't, in some small way, contribute to the community you really shouldn't complain about how things are. Yes, it is your right to do so, but if you don't try to change things, all you're doing is complaining. And also that maybe it would be nice to consider other people's feelings before calling them names in an open forum. And that, if you insist on insulting people, you put it under a filter so that only those that wish to read what you've written have to see it. That's all.

I'm.. I'm not as altruistic as I pretend. I'm not as good of a person as I let others imagine me to be. It's a good feeling to be appreciated and admired, and I think part of my cowardice disallowed me to contradict popular opinion, no matter what direction it came from.

I have nothing against humans. My daughter, I argue, married one after all, and my grandson is was half-elven. But the truth behind that decision was not altogether because I thought it would make her happy. Though it did make her happy and for that.. I will always be glad.

But the truth behind Idril and Tuor is that.. there was a prophecy spoken to me that said from my House and the House of Huor the hope of men and elves would come. That a new star would arise and that birth would bring us salvation. I sacrificed my daughter to 50 years of happiness and an eternity afterward of pain, because I needed her son to be born, so that he could throw his life away to save us all.
