The Crystal Cave Sought Artifact: A shard from Merlin's staff Location: Tintagel Caves in Cornwall, England Summary: Agents must find and contain the shard, transporting it back to the Cardiff Motherhouse for further study. Researchers have determined that seals (special engraved emblems which The Company will provide) must be placed around shard, and then a spell for containment must be cast, which requires the blood of a child born without a father. This is a blood ritual which will require the person casting it to prick their finger and draw a symbol on the crystal in their blood… and must be done by someone who never knew their father. Dangers: The cave is filled with giant crystals, anyone who touches the crystals finds themselves trapped in suspended animation inside a crystal. In addition, spells of confusion are easily triggered by passing too close to magically planted sensors, and cause the explorers to see people who would emotionally impact their psyche, or imagine themselves in places other than the cave. Additionally, enchanted lizards spit a neurotoxin that causes temporary blindness. Outline: Team A (along with a few player-controlled NPC's) will spelunk down a narrow chasm and into the high ground of the cave. They must hike down a steep, slippery path, complete with running water and jagged rocks, which forks out several times. Taking a wrong path results in entering a chamber filled with "dragons," or more scientifically, lizards which spit a blinding neurotoxin. This blindness or attempting to haul along a blinded and panicked person causes all but one person to bump into the crystals and find themselves trapped. While frozen in crystal and unable to escape, their minds are still functional and this kind of entrapment often causes their minds to wander and face a greatest fear or haunting memory. Team B (along with a few player-controlled NPC's) will hike down to the shore, then enter the broad mouth of the cave from there. They will hike uphill towards the center of the cave. They have a relatively unhindered path, though it is filed with sensors that trigger disorienting spells, and those pesky neurotoxin spitting lizards. At last, they enter a large, open chamber, upon entering it triggers a cave-in. One reckless member of the team rushes forward and escapes into a passageway, allowing them to continue forward. The rest of Team B must see to their blinded/disoriented teammates and escape the tunnel quickly, as the tide is quickly coming in and the passageways flooding. Because they cannot go higher, they must exit the way they came before they become trapped. Conclusion: In the center of the cave, one person from Team A and one person from Team B meet up and find the artifact. The chamber is already half flooded, the tide coming in. One team member must place the seals while the other performs the blood ritual. Once the shard is contained, they must collect the artifact and hurry to find the trapped members of Team A. When the artifact was sealed, the trapped team members were set free, though were likely disoriented and weakened from this time in suspended animation. They must hurry up to the narrow channel which Team A entered through and make their escape that way. |
The Golden Bones Sought Artifact: The Bones of Ras Shamra Location: Museum of Natural History, New York, New York Summary: Al-Lādhiqīyah (Latakia), on the Mediterranean coast of northern Syria. In ancient days, beautiful young men were dipped in gold and carted around festivals like living statues in order to honor the gods. The gold eventually poisoned them, an agonizing and slow death in honor of their gods. Their bodies were tossed in a vat to melt off the gold, what was usually left were bones bonded with gold, all flesh and fat melted away and be dredged out. Because of the trauma of their deaths, their spirits were sometimes caught in the bones, it was believed that priests could could summon their wrathful spirits to do their bidding. An ancient sculpture made of these gilded bones was unearthed a few months ago, and Marc-Antoine Shaeffer, a Company agent, was on hand. It was a great recovery... but the agent knew the secrets of the gilded bones. Testing the powers of the artifact, he muttered ancient words and loosed the spirits on the unsuspecting agents. The entire crew securing the statue for transport died in an agonizing instant, and Shaeffer fled with the artifact. A video of this event has only recently leaked on the Internet. Now, some time later, a huge gala is being hosted in New York, and the kings, presidents and heads of state of most of the world is to be in attendance. Shaeffer is listed as the host, and he promises to unveil a rare artifact, the likes of which the world has never seen. The Company is neither impressed nor pleased. Extra points if you get the reference here! Outline: Infiltration Team: A member of the Company security team has been given credentials and will be posing as security for the event. Another Company agent must slip into the party, posing as an invited guest. Together they must get access to the display room and use the Company provided seals to trap the spirits within the prison of the bones before any guests can be killed. These seals are inscribed in cuneiform and a short incantation in the four most used languages of the time, the Ugaritic, Akkadian, Sumerian and Hurrian languages. Apprehension Team: A member of security and another member the Company must identify and restrain (or exterminate) Shaeffer. Arresting him alive and well is best, of course, but do not expect him to come easily! There will be many bystanders , and Shaeffer should be considered armed and very dangerous. Will he pull a gun on a guest? Use his own security to fight back? Cause a distraction and flee out the back? Threaten to use some ancient curse? Player imagination is encouraged here, and Shaeffer is yours to NPC. Spin Team: This video of the deaths of transport team Shaeffer killed has recently surfaced. It is a haunting video where the spirits of the dead can be seen and the shrieks of pain of both the living and the long dead seem to pierce the very soul. Internet specialists and journalists must work together to 'prove' to the Internet and the media that the leaked video is a hoax. Challenging since everyone in the Company knows that the video is real, but spinning information is what the Company does best! |
