C1 | Steph + Jason
Steph blew a low whistle. “Smooth, Winter. Damn smooth.” But goddamn, Jason could be charming when he wanted. Normally, that wasn’t too much of an issue, but when she was feeling the effects of a buzz? It made it a little difficult to remember that there were boundaries. She worked at the Regiment and he – well, he wasn’t here by choice. Not really.
She laughed. “Yes, that’s the one! Like I’d give you some subpar tart after just talking it up like it’s the best thing since sliced bread.” She shook her head, letting her hair curtain her face for a moment as she laughed again. “I will consider a very lengthy critique to my exes, in that case. But—,” she pointed at him, “Remember: food can be pleasurable, too. Unique way, obviously. But there’s a reason chocolate is an aphrodisiac.”
The compliment was somewhat unanticipated, but not unwelcome. Stephanie did love a job well done – and being part of a successful project was a kind of victory to someone like her.
For the sake of something to do with her hands, she picked her beer back up and nodded, attempting to be gracious. “They did all the planning but I’ll admit… I think you guys needed something like this long before – everything happened.” Her smile was somewhat softer, then; kinder and more sincere. “I hope you’re having fun, Jason. You definitely deserve it.”
