She hadn’t realized how much she’d missed the sunlight.
Washington wasn’t exactly demonstrating an abundance of it, but it was here. Having spent so much time working in the darkness (long before Regiment got their collar on her), Kyra had adjusted well to Inferno. The underground facility hadn’t been as hard on her as it had been on others. And yet, after stepping off the plane and basking in the open sky, and then into the walls of Limbo, Kyra was astonished by the way the light fractured and filtered into the facility, illuminating the halls with natural light which was much, much more forgiving than the harsh, yellow overhead ones.
After her room was settled and Kyra had caught up on some beauty sleep, she decided to prowl. There were a few familiar faces to spot throughout the (admittedly large) crowd that made up Limbo’s population, but Kyra continued to keep to herself. Most people either didn’t notice her or were happy to avoid, which suited her fine; what better way to get the lay of the land than with some solitude and concentration? And she needed to get to know this place, inside and out, even the spaces she wasn’t technically allowed.
Just in case.
She was just poking her head inside the Shop when she heard her name called. If it had been any other voice, she might have ignored it; but it was so familiar, and spoken with such immediacy, that Kyra spun towards the sound. Her breath caught for a moment, surprise and alarm suddenly hammering in her head.
Waverley was here? She shouldn’t have been surprised – Regiment was getting good at catching them all, like a really bizarre and twisted Pokemon game – but she was angry. Waverley didn’t belong here.
And yet, she felt somewhat relieved to see Waverley’s familiar face. All those mornings when Kyra snuck back in with a wallet stuffed with cash after pawning her “finds”, Waverley was there with breakfast and a kind smile. Day in, day out; Kyra returned home to that same face and smile. Kyra had missed her greatly.
A slow smile spread across her own face. “Waverley?” She approached the blonde woman without any hesitation and, once in arms-reach, she threw her arms around the girl’s shoulders and drew her into a hug.
