______________
Cal offered to help and she wasn’t going to say no to having his company. Frankie didn’t need the help. Her strength was heightened, but not as much as some of the powerhouses that lived under the same facility. Still, she was able to do uncanny feats with her ability regardless. There wasn’t much to move anyway, just a few bags. Clothes, mostly. It wasn’t like any of them had been able to bring in their personal effects, things that they all collected over the years. How Frankie managed to keep her iPod was both a mystery and a blessing.
She wanted to talk to Cal anyway. Wanting being the keyword, and underline a few times (bolded too). A lot of things seemed to be happening in a short span of time and Frankie just wanted her head to stop spinning. She had just come back to Limbo only to find out that everyone was drifting apart. That thought alone was enough to keep her up at night.
And then her brother got transferred not only to Limbo, but assigned in the same unit.
And then her conversation with Alejandro didn’t go as she planned. That was another stupid mistake on her part.
Family doesn’t betray family.
That was all her mind kept repeating for the rest of the night. What did that mean exactly? That she wasn’t family anymore? That he didn’t regret his betrayal. She didn’t know what to make of it and asking him would make her look weaker than she already made herself out to be. She never experienced this kind of hopelessness before. Frankie thought she could deal with this kind of pressure, but realized it was always evenly distributed among the Outsiders. They didn’t have that anymore and Frankie felt like she was going to collapse under the heavy weight she carried on her back.
“Well. That’s all, folks,” Frankie said sardonically as she dropped the plastic bag into her new room. “I think I almost broke a sweat.” A smirk blossomed along her lips and tossed a look over to Cal.
