“Ohhhh,” he replied, still clearly not getting it, as evidenced by the bewildered expression on his face. It was only when he noticed her slight blush, accompanied by some laughter. Then the lightbulb went off. “Oh! Well, y’know—,” he had nowhere to go with that, so he just shook and bowed his head, beyond grateful when she introduced herself and saved him from having to finish that sentence, since he had absolutely nowhere to go.
“Cool. Hey, Jo, nice to meet you,” he extended his hand out to shake hers; that whole midwestern politeness thing never did truly go away. “I’m Henry.”
As she went about picking up weights to stack them, Henry joined her, figuring that since she was helping, the least he could do was assist and not stand around watching. “Oh, um, I don’t know—pretty normal story I guess. Grew up, got superpowers, went on the run, ended up here anyway.” He laughed even though most of those things were sore subjects.
While trying to get the pieces of the weight rack back together, he glanced her way. “What about you?”
