The ride there (or anywhere) was less than comfortable. He was used to it. Close quarters and cramped spaces was something he'd grown accustomed to the last four years of working for this organization. He supposed, for the most part, that he was doing some good in the world. Much more than he had been sitting on his hands before. That's what he told himself to get to sleep at night. In all honesty, David couldn't remember the last time he felt happy. Relief. Contentment. A restful night's sleep. David couldn't remember. When the transfer from Everglades went through, David wasn't sure if he was relieved or not. He was used to his handler's tactics and methods to get him to work. It'd been four years with the same person that they learned what each other needed and required. Dave learned to anticipate orders rather than have to take them directly. |
