He didn't catch the casual use of magic powers. Not initially, anyway. Contrary to her concerns, Buck was too invested in her answers, which was probably why he didn't notice when the voice of Tom Delonge and the drumming of Travis Barker stopped. It was genuinely curious why she preferred this empty shell of a place over a party where she presumably knew, well, most everyone.
"I guess it's not for X-rated dates," Buck answered, giving the hologym another once-over. He didn't understand the appeal. If he wanted to use his powers, he'd just fucking use them. Why did he have to do it here? Did they really think this was some sort of boot camp for superheroes? What if he didn't want to go on missions? It was all rather conceited of the Regiment. Then again, none of that was her fault. Not really.
Well, maybe it was. Indirectly. If she didn't fix this place up every time some dumbass broke it, the Regiment would have to shut it down eventually, right?
He had to grin again when she made her point. Hey, Buck wasn't that dumb. He knew how old he was. "That's because I did age out. But if they think I'm gonna ice bad guys for them, they could at least give me a forty for the trouble." He didn't buy her reason for nixing the party. It sounded every bit like a cop out, which just made his McCall Brain work harder to figure out why. "The panel? Probably could have waited. Besides, I don't think you were doing a bang up job fixing it before I came."
He meant it lightly enough, even as he watched her fight with the frozen hammer. Shrugging, Buck considered her plight. "I don't get frostbite. But I dunno, it's kinda cute to see you struggle with it." Reaching up to pull his other earbud out, only then did he recognize the sudden silence. He frowned, tugging his phone out to look at it. Did the batteries die, or... "Did you do that?" It sounded dumb even as he said it, but then again Buck didn't know what Evie could do. If he did, it would have been pretty obvious that she was responsible. "It just shut off."
