Dove Wilson
Syreni Jones
WHERE: The Cafeteria
WHEN: 17th May
WHAT: Dove and Syreni meet for lunch to get to know each other
STATUS: Closed; in progress
VIEW WARNINGS: TBD

If she could make Syreni feel a little better, if she could help the other woman make some friends, she'd do it.

When handler Kingfisher had asked her to maybe think about reaching out to Syreni, Dove had been a little confused. But Evan had told her that Syreni didn't have many friends on the base, and she was probably feeling a little isolated, her team mates were, understandably, a little upset about their belongings, so she wasn't exactly easily getting along with them.

Being that Dove understood being in a strange place, her powers being unpredictable and struggling a little to make friends, she'd told Evan she'd happily reach out. If she could make Syreni feel a little better, if she could help the other woman make some friends, she'd do it.

Lunch seemed the safest place to start -there were other people around, so Syreni wouldn't feel like Dove just pounced on her, and they could talk while having small distractions too. Dove always thought that food helped to bring people together -candy was the root of her friendship with Mason after all. Bouncing on her heels, waiting outside the cafeteria, Dove bopped along to a song in her head, waiting for the ice blond woman to arrive.

Evan had told Sy, that he was going to talk to a few others to interact with her a bit more. So she could start meeting other people. It almost felt like he was setting her up for a playdate. But she wouldn't argue with Evan. She'd literally do anything at this point just to get her powers back. Even if not completely.

As she neared the cafeteria, she would take notice of the young woman waiting for her outside. A deep exhale was quickly escaped her lips as she came to stop a few feet away from Dove for the moment. Her hand rested on her wrist for the moment, as she rubbed her skin slightly.

"Hi..." Is all she said with a slight wave of her fingers.

Even with her powers off, Dove's face lit up when she smiled, she'd always been a naturally peppy young woman, and even this place and her struggles with powers, they didn't stop that from still being the case. "Hey." She did try to keep herself relatively contained, given that she didn't want to be too over eager or enthusiastic in a first meeting -it took some time for people to get used to her energy levels.

"I checked ahead they have mac and cheese on the menu today. I love mac, my mom used to make it all the time when I was feeling down. C'mon we'll get some food and find a seat." She knew that Syreni was a little older than she was, but sometimes that made things all the more difficult to adapt to when coming to these places, right?

Besides, Dove came to Regiment with Raven, she had her BFF for support the whole way through this. Grabbing some food -although she didn't take any mac and cheese, because she wasn't feeling down and she'd just compare it to her moms, Dove ended up shoving a bottle of water into her back pocket while carrying a plate of food and bowl of fruit to go with them. "Do you have a preference on where to sit?"

Once inside, Sy would grab at the plate of food as she glanced around the cafeteria for the moment. "Anywhere is fine." She said softly as she held her tray. "There." She said noticing a tray with not a lot of people sitting in it. A deep sigh escaped her lips when she noticed none of the others were around. Which was good.

Steps came to follow Dove as they took their seats, her hands brushing back her white hair for the moment as she tied it off into a braid to be able to focus and eat easier. "... What did Evan tell you... Or ask...?" She knew Evan said he wanted her to met new people so she could focus on what a good friendship was like.

But she wasn't sure what he would ask others or what he would tell them about Sy.

Settling at a table, placing her bottle of water beside her plate and her fruit to the side, Dove gave Syreni a slight shrug. "He said you were having a little bit of trouble making friends, and that it'd be good if I could maybe help you adjust." Of course, Dove did know about the incident with the 8th floor, everyone knew about it by now. It was just that Dove was too nice to say anything about it.

"I know that making friends can be hard, I'm not always great at it. I'm sometimes really shy." It took her a little while to get out of her shell, she'd planned for making friends, of course. She had a journal with meticulous detail on how she could befriend her whole team before she was moved onto Holly's team, and so far they'd been just as good to make friends with, but it was still a little daunting.

"But, sometimes all it takes is a little nudge and it's really simple to make new friends. A lot of people around here are really awesome. Just like you, I'm sure."

Having a hard time was an understatement. "I've made friends... Just not a lot... I don't really talk to people." She said with a shrug of her shoulders as she came to take a bite out of her mac and cheese. Still, Dove seemed nice. Very approachable so far, so maybe it was a good thing that Evan asked her to reach out to Sy. Especially right now.

When she said a lot of people were awesome, Sy shrugged her shoulders once more. "I guess. But not everyone." She said as she exhaled for the moment. She didn't want to think about him them. She wanted to get better. She wanted her powers back and she didn't want her team to feel they were unsafe around her anymore.

"Maybe... Like you said.. A nudge would help."

Not a lot, Dove got the impression that Syreni was a little self-contained, like those quiet loner girls at school who were really sweet and nice when you talked to them, but tended to just stay to themselves, didn't want to sit in groups at lunch time or really socialise a lot.

It was just something that some people were; introverts were usually some really lovely people, they just didn't like being out there too much. "I'm kinda the opposite, I talk like all the time. I'm sure people get tired of listening to me sometimes." But then, she'd made some more friends here, and that made being here a lot more bearable. Maybe that's what Evan was hoping for with Syreni too.

"Some people kinda suck. They're needlessly mean, or just rude. And say stuff just to be mean and rude." And the one time Dove had lost her temper had been with a rude and mean person. "But that's not our fault, that just means they're going to be sad and pathetic and lonely themselves." Taking a few bites of food, Dove tried to shake off the high energy she sometimes got when she started on a topic, usually leading into a rambling mess.

"But that's not the point. You said you like the pool, so you like swimming? Are you sporty?"

"I.. haven't met anyone mean." She said softly. Even though she had an altercation with Sandy and got into an argument with Scotty, Sy defended it, thinking it was still her fault for spending time with him. But it seemed that that was over with since he wanted nothing to do with her now. The thought along had her shrinking a bit in her skin.

Still, when she asked about being sporty she shook her head. "No... The water relaxes me" She said softly. "So does the cold." She added as she came to eat at her food a bit more. A heavy sigh escaped her lips. "I'm sorry... I'm not good at this..." She said about talking to people. Even though she did try in the past lately she just wanted to disappear and not be a bother.

Which in truth was a bother all on its own? So she wasn't sure what to do or where to fit. "I... never had friends growing up... Until here when I met Caden and Sc--" She stopped at Scotty's name as she shook her head. "Caden... He's my friend." She said as she swallowed and nodded her head.

"Like when you're floating and weightless, and everything is just calm, and you can drift anywhere? I like that too." When Dove would turn her brain off for a little while, it was nice to just be, to just float along. "Although I'm not a huge fan of the cold, I'm from California, so it's usually warm there." And Dove got cold easy.

"Is it because of your power? The cold relaxing you? Or have you always liked it?" Sometimes, those cards with the winter scenes, where everything was white and snowy, but the sun was in the background, they were pretty. And Dove wished maybe it would snow in California. But now they were in Washington, so it wasn't really important. "I hope it snows this Christmas," getting ahead of herself. "So I can make my first snowman."

Syreni's apology for not being 'good' at this had Dove scrunching her face, taking a sip of water before she put the bottle down. "Look, there's no right or wrong way to do this, we all make friends differently." And clearly she could, Dove wasn't going to ask about 'Sc', because that seemed to be a sore point, "How did you and Caden become friends?"

"I've always liked the cold since I was a little girl... The heat... I've suffered from heat exhaustion when younger rather quickly." She said as she shrugged her shoulders and ate a bit more. Hearing her ask about Caden as smiled a little before it faded quickly.

"We met his first day here... I invited him to the hologym and he saw what I could do, and hit one of my frost giants." She said with another shrug as she sipped at her water for the moment. "He's very nice." She added as she thought about the others she's met her so far. "The few people I have met, are all nice."

Dove was getting the impression that Syreni meeting people wasn't the problem, just that she tended to focus on one or two people to make friendships with. Which wasn't bad, Dove could understand that some people just suited that style of friendship better -have a few friends, but just one or two close ones.

"It's important to have people you can hang out with, I think especially around here." She knew that she'd get lonely if she hadn't been able to make friends outside of Raven. "It's good you and Caden can train together too." And Dove really knew how important that was. Trusting someone when you were using powers, trusting that you wouldn't hurt them and they wouldn't hurt you and all the other stuff that went along with it.

"So, is Caden your only close friend? I'm not trying to pry, I just... I think that maybe you seem like the type to just have one or two close friends, and then a lot of people you know who're nice that you talk to. I and sorta understand why Evan would want you to try and make more close friends, but sometimes it's just not for everyone, y'know?"

When asked if Caden was her close friend, she didn't have to think twice about the matter really. "He is." She said with a smile on her features. "I.. never had friends." She admitted easily as she came to eat at her food once more. But soon came to look at Dove for the moment. "I think, I'd do better with a few close friends. Rather than a lot." She added as she thought about it for the moment.

She used to hang out with Scotty but not anymore. "Caden and I hang out during the night, because he has a busy schedule in the mornings and afternoon." She said thinking. "But he still makes time sometimes when he can." She said with a shrug of her shoulders. "I know Evan means well... Especially after everything that's happened."
