______________
Frankie knew what to expect. She knew going into the holoygym what Scotty wanted to do; all three of them agreed on it. The thought had left her mind when they started one of the programs. An overabundance of options in her opinion. It was something neutral, one that could test Frankie’s durability. She was curious as to how heavy of a hit she could handle. It was her fault really, she should have known it was coming at some point. Maybe Scotty said something, if he did, Frankie didn’t hear it.
The wave of emotions hit her in a way that it was almost like a physical attack. It caught her breath and wrenched her insides. Her eyes went so big, almost like saucers. Fear had taken her, it’s vice grip crushing her chest. Fear, panic, loneliness. They all took her under, swept her so easily like a massive tidal wave. She left them without so much as saying a single word.
She couldn’t. There were no words for this.
She ran up the entire nine floors hoping that it would give her some sort of release. Fingers scratched and picked at her skin, wishing she could leave herself. Right into her room she went and that’s where she would spend the next hour and the entirety of her day.
That’s what she wanted to do.
And then she would talk to Scotty.
The hour was spent leaning against the door with her knees pressed tightly to her chest. After awhile she was finally able to suck in a breath and exhale a second later. At some point Frankie found herself curled onto her bed, earbuds stuffed tightly into her ears. She was coming down, the hour had passed but Frankie still didn’t move. Soft tunes continued to play in her ear and her lips silently sung along to the lyrics.
