Elena chewed on a bit of toast before shifting toward the fresh fruit that had been laid out on her plate, smiling all the time she listened to Vasily detail his time in the zoo. She wasn't a particular fan of the zoo environment, but that was more from her own experience than anything else. When the conversation turned to his wife and children, she cocked her head a bit.
"{Kids? I thought you only had one?}" She took a sip of the juice she'd picked out just before they sat down at the table. Vasily had spoken often of his family during the weeks they had conversed in lockup. She assumed much later that the overseers had actually allowed the two of them to speak in order to listen to what they might say. It would've been just as easy to shut them up in rooms that wouldn't allow them to speak to each other. Then again, how better to find out about people than from just listening?
"{Don't tell me she was pregnant when you left and you didn't know?}" There was a somewhat surprised look on her face as she asked. Surely that was something she would've shared? Or maybe she hadn't even known either. That was probably the real issue.
