Isi watched the young woman as she fidgeted. She was awkward and shy, but this seemed like a learned helplessness that had been instilled in her by inadequate socialization and schooling. In all honesty, the regiment might be a life-saving tool for Syreni. She would get the care and medical intervention she needed to transition from an awkward ugly duckling into a graceful swan.
"And that's what we're going to be working on while you're with me." Isi picked up a notepad she'd set beside her seat so she could review her notes again. "I want to help you learn to control your emotions better so that you won't have that problem." It was hard to figure out what carrot to dangle in front of this one. With the last few, it was easy. They had tangible items they wanted. Syreni's wants were much more emotional and abstract.
"Tell me, what are you feeling right now? How do you feel just being in here?" She wanted to know if Syreni felt an fear or anticipation about being with a psychologist.
