Who: Alejandro + Ava What: Capture. When: Saturday morning; 1/13/18. Where: Somewhere in New York.
He supposed it was only a matter of time.
The kids seemed more tense than usual. More on edge when Scott had been picked up by The Regiment. A real unmarked black van, bag over the head sort of deal without any of that actually going down. It just proved to be the one embolden fact when it came to supers. They could really just disappear and no one would ask any questions about what had happened to them or where they had gone. One minute there, the next it was like they didn't even exist. Alejandro had almost anticipated for it to happen. The group of teenagers and young adults were pushing buttons they shouldn't have been pushing to begin with. Starting things they really didn't know what the end game would have been. While he was sure, in the history books people might talk about the people who rose against the government in a time of great destruction. He also had to look at what happened to the people who had gotten in the way of the government before: reservations for the Natives, Tuskegee. Supers were just going to end up registered like sex offenders and thrown into the ghetto like the people before them. Maybe they'd get a holiday, but hundreds of years later people would know the truth and boycott it.
The one thing they had was right now. The need for their voices to be heard. Most of "The Outsiders" really did have the great potential to make a difference in the world. Even without being vigilantes. Supers had the power to save lives right at their finger tips because genetics hadn't cast them aside but rather lifted them up. It solidified the idea in his mind that the human race was still evolving in his head. Where people would say that maybe on a cellular to immunize against certain diseases or viruses. Supers were a leap forward in any technological advancement ever made by man. They were the next step. Especially with more and more supers being exposed day-to-day, the fear was there for anyone. People would try to find a way to regulate them or as the US Government was showing -- weaponize them. No longer were funds going into nuclear races but into pushing superpowered soldiers into subjugation. He cringed at the idea of what Russia could bring to the table. At the idea of what China had.
But none of them seemed to have the same idea as America in all her glory to take their own citizens. Probably because those psychos knew all they had to take was volunteers but that remained to be seen.
There was the quiet movement throughout the warehouse from one of the kids, shifting in front of the television because they just couldn't sleep. One of them was licking their wounds from a recent run-in with another super who seemed to think they could take on the police. Only to be shown that it just meant getting arrested the moment his group stepped in. Disappearing right before anyone could do anything about them. Mismatched cots on the floor, blankets on a collection of pillows, and he was carefully padding through them to the hotplate in the corner to pour himself a pot of coffee. Alejandro rolled his head to the side, stretching out his neck as he did with a sigh. Too little sleep, too much to worry about. He had told them he wasn't afraid. They would be safe.
But if he had been in Scott's position he would've ratted them out just the same. The fact they hadn't moved because it was either too difficult or because bad timing was all the more reason to set some alarms up for most of them. At least during the middle of the night, he could actually step outside for some fresh air. Alejandro carried...the entire pot of coffee along with him as he sat down, kicking his feet up as he looked on at the city lights. He heard a door click shut and he didn't even really bother to look up in the direction of the person who joined him. "You know...people talk about you. I heard people mention shit." He took a sip from his coffee cup as he set the coffee pot down on the table next to him. "I'm not going to fight. It's too late for that bullshit and I'm way too tired. Want a cup of coffee instead?"
