"I've never killed a person in my life," claimed Khalid, which was technically true but definitely also elided several details of Khalid's work. He'd never done the deed himself, but he'd certainly caused a considerably amount of mayhem and loss of life in a general sense. "Unless you count the time I fell off that cliff in Peru, but that was an accident and might be classified, I forget." It was definitely classified, but there was also no point in trying to keep secrets around a person like Carmine. Khalid's flippant mention of the incident also glossed over the fact that he still had nightmares about his body - or at least a body he'd been in - tumbling down a sheer incline and landing in a broken heap amongst the rocks at the bottom. Turns out if you die in the game, you don't die in real life though, and Khalid had woken up in his own body without fanfare. It was almost anti-climactic, except for the dreams and a sudden fear of heights that he still hadn't gotten over. It hadn't even caused a noticeable disruption in the mission, since he'd been coming back from an objective.
Now he wished he hadn't brought it up at all, because all it did was remind him of things he didn't want to be reminded of. The self-depreciating joke had been right there though, how could he not take it? He gave himself a little shake and smiled at Rory. "We've got papers aplenty, just need the stuff to put inside them." He reached out, fingers sliding down the inside of Rory's arm till they found his hand and curled around it.
"Laundry what now?" asked Khalid cheerfully as the three of them proceeded into the shoppette. "Never heard of it." A favorite game to play was 'how long can we keep up this anti-social behavior before Dean tells us to act like civilized human beings' and not doing laundry was a great, low-effort way to play. The only downside was the fact that Rory's comparatively higher standards for living might make him tap-out before Dean stepped in, thus conceding the match. Khalid was trying to decide if getting some Febreze was against his self-imposed and entirely spurious rules.
