Dani crinkled her nose. Her experiences with Handlers, so far, had been extremely positive. Although she’d had limited interactions with Russell, he’d seemed professional and helpful enough – and was hot to boot – and she probably would have enjoyed learning from him. Holly was a hard ass but also extremely empathetic – it didn’t take a genius to see that – and Hazel. Well. Hazel was pretty great, and not just for a Handler, but as a person. Talk about going above and beyond.
So, hearing this rather indifferent attitude from one of the other Handlers in the facility made her feel suddenly very lucky. Even if this guy wasn’t the worst thing to ever happen to his agents (which she very much doubted was the case, he didn’t look like a monster), she wasn’t sure how she’d feel having to work under some guy who professed not to give a shit.
“Maybe you should care what they do in their free time, since their well-being is kinda, y’know, on you. That’s kind of a shitty attitude to have, bro.”
She shrugged and extended the carton of ice cream towards him so he could take a scoop if he wanted. “Maybe you shoulda gone to law school. Might have had more career longevity.”
