The last lingering fear of being rejected or cast aside melted away when the young man spotted that smile of hers; and when Abby spoke of watching the movie, and taking things slow, he nodded his agreement to both suggestions. "Well it's already cued up, chica, and taking things slow sounds cool to me." Going slow wasn't a brush off, but the chance to see how things went between them...which was a heck of a lot better then being asked to go away, for sure.
Dating was pretty new to Jester; granted it didn't help that he literally spent the last eight years of his life working in a secret government base surrounded by people far older then he was, or the fact that his social skills were lacking too. Oh Jackson had been brought up by his grandmother to be kind and sweet, but he grew up lacking a male role model to show him how to go about interacting with women. The only mentor he had was the handler who brought him into the Regiment, yet as cool as the guy was (and as much as he had taught the young man how to shine in the tech field) well things were always kept strictly professional.
It was tv and movies that really informed Warner on how relationships were supposed to work; which he knew were still skewed and not quite right either. In the end, after having faced rejection a few times before, Jester retreated away from the social world of girls and dating altogether. Or at least he had tried to. Meeting Abby changed things a lot for the hacker; just having the chance at a real friendship, getting to spend time with her and grow comfortable just being himself too. Their shared interests made it easy, and he loved being able to show her all the cool things that she had missed out on before. So when the red head raised the questions after that long pause his smile lit up once again.
