Who: Ethan Bishop & Caden Cassano
What: Ethan swings by 304E
When: Sometime after this
Where: 304E
Rating: Low
After having been given a playlist by Alex and also having spent time with Carly Ethan stopped off at the cafeteria to grab something to eat and by something to eat he collected an apple. This was the very thing he was biting down into and chewing as he made short work of moving through Limbo, well versed and well aware of where the different rooms could be located. He might not have been at Limbo for a little while but there was something to be said for muscle memory as some things were just so ingrained that it was impossible to forget. Swimming, riding a bike, same sort of principle. With apple clasped in between his teeth Ethan pushed his way into the suite of rooms where 304E was and where Caden could be found. Ethan's old handler would be proud of the fact he was trying this whole talking to people thing and not being completely focused on training. That had been an issue apparently and he hadn't let Ethan leave without promising him first that he would at least try to enjoy himself wherever he ended up. So he was trying, wasn’t sure he was being all that successful but hey you couldn’t run unless you learned to walk. Now outside of 304E, he tossed what remained of the apple (which wasn’t a lot) into the nearby trash can with the same ease he drew and fired arrows with his bow before lifting his hand to knock. —- As far as Limbo went the people and the facility itself wasn’t bad. It was a big upgrade from the youth center, which Caden knew he had been stuck in a lot longer than he wanted to be. He lucked out by going to a facility that people thought were better than the others. Who wanted to be stuck in a place called Inferno or Underworld? Anything above ground seemed better than suffocating feeling of living under the dirt of the earth. Caden had some issues with his super strength. It was hard to control at first, the things he touched seemed to crumble under his fingers, each tiny grasp seemed to break even the most unbreakable of things. He forgot just how many doorknobs or bar handles he accidentally ripped off. Each time Caden tried to control his body he was confusing it with the control he had with his eye powers. Needless to say he needed the extra bit of personal training although sometimes it was hard to keep his strength under control. He knew it would be obvious to his handler that he would still need more training to learn how to control it. Caden didn’t quite know what to do with himself. He knew that it was probably a good idea to meet his teammates but he couldn’t bring himself to venture out just yet. He had already gotten a taste of the hologym and had encountered a frosty blond who had the knack of creating ice giants. It was quite the eye opener for him. Caden hadn’t expected to see something so complicated done with ice shaping. It took him a second to answer the door when he heard the knock. Caden half smiled when he saw Ethan, his eyes having to peer up just a bit because the other super was taller than him. “Hey, you came,” Caden said, his voice somewhat surprised but he was glad that Ethan did stop by. Caden knew that he was new so if Ethan had decided to come by another time he wouldn’t have been that bothered by it. He didn’t know what the normal “routine” was supposed to be. ___ Ethan just sort of stared at Caden as he seemed genuinely surprised that the other super had rocked up at his door. “Uh, yeah,” he replied though he did gesture over his shoulder. “I mean you said now was a good time, I can always come back?” Though the other guy was smiling so that was a good thing, right? Means he wasn’t completely unwelcome. “And as you gathered, I’m Ethan,” he said as he offered a hand. ___ “No, you’re good, man.” Caden wasn’t going to send Ethan away. Caden wanted to make friends. He wanted to find...something in all of this. He knew what the rules were, knew that the implant in his body kept him in checked, controlled him to an extent because in the end that’s what they were. Just bodies to be used - their powers at the mercy of the Regiment. It was a facade but what sort of life could he even live now? Nobody wanted him out there. Caden didn’t have a family anymore. After shaking Ethan’s hand Caden stepped aside to let the other super in before shutting the door behind him. The layout of the rooms felt like the norm to him and it didn’t feel so cramped. Caden had to share a room at the youth facility while here Caden just had to share a bathroom. “So, you’ve been in the Regiment for a while?” Everyone that Caden seemed to be used to it. Some people had actually gone or had been to other facilities. ___ Alright, good. Ethan acknowledged the reassurance with a nod of his head before he ducked into Caden's room and he passed a curious gaze over it. He wasn't nosey but he was observant, especially as you could pick up on a lot of things about people if you didn't so much listen to what they were saying but picked up clues in the less obvious. "Yeah, been with the Regiment for ten years now. Ever since I was eighteen," Ethan shared as his hands strayed into the pockets of his jeans as he resisted the urge to fold his arms across his chest. Whilst that was his preferred way of standing he understood how standoffish that could and did appear. Not exactly the best way to start a friendship. "I've been through a lot of different facilities, Limbo is my last stop for a while or that's what they tell me." He turned his gaze to Caden. "How about you, how long have you been with the Regiment?" ___ “Not that long, actually. I mean, if you count the youth center? I had some issues with my super strength but this place is my first.” Which wasn’t so bad, he thought. He knew from others that the other places were terrible. Limbo was supposed to be one of the better places but he didn’t exactly know for sure how good he had it. Caden guessed he wouldn’t unless he was transferred one day. “We don’t get to really choose where we go. I mean, I guess it doesn’t really matter.” Caden didn’t really have anywhere else to go. Even if things were different and the supes had rights where would he go? He didn’t have a family who wanted him. Caden just needed the Regiment to mean something - to mean anything, really. “I guess I’m just trying to figure things out.” It wasn’t easy being new. Not everything was different from the youth facility but Limbo felt like the big leagues. He was going to be in a group with other people who had powers, too. They would train together and if Caden was lucky he would be able to go on a mission. ___ “There are worse places,” Ethan shared. “You could be stuck underground like the people in Inferno.” Texas to those not familiar with the names. “Least here you get sun and the option of going outside onto the grounds if you want to.” Caden was right, they definitely did not get to choose where they did or didn’t go, just had to go where you were needed. Ethan knew that better than most as he was frequently moved between facilities depending on a need for his unique power set, but he had been told and promised repeatedly that Limbo would be his final stop for a little while. Maybe give him some time to get settled for a change. “You’ll get used to it,” Ethan informed Caden. “It’s definitely an adjustment period, but after awhile it becomes second nature. Who’s your handler?” --- “Yeah, I’ve heard about that.” Caden did feel like he lucked out there. He knew that he could have easily been taken to one of the underground facilities but luckily it was Limbo that he was sent to. He wondered if it was different somewhere else, if they treated supes the same, if being underground was as bad as some people said it was. “I mean, I don’t really like the idea of never seeing sunlight. I guess you would only be able to if you were on a mission.” Caden felt like he was having some anxiety over the whole thing. He hadn’t been on a mission at all, never really had the chance to test his abilities the way he was trained to do. Limbo was supposed to fix that. “Some guy named Marshall.” Caden hadn’t met him yet - not in person but he was sure that would change sometime soon. “So, here comes the obvious question. What can you do?” --- "That's kinda personal," Ethan replied with a smirk. "You know, it's like asking a woman her age." Though he did like the direct approach as it was better than beating around the bush. "But for the record, power sensing, power mimicry, psychic shield and enhanced marksmanship." Which meant he'd be able to pick out what Caden could do without the other agent telling him anything. "I could probably tell you your powers without you saying a word." --- “Really?” Caden asked, unable to help the small chuckle that escaped because he didn’t realize powers could be personal in a place where it was obvious that mostly everyone was a supe. At the same time, when it came to power sensing, it was kind of ironic. “Uh huh. So personal but I bet you don’t ask permission before sensing powers.” “Alright, then what can I do?” Caden wanted to see just how well these powers worked. He wasn’t going to say that he himself had enhanced marksmanship. Caden liked that there was someone else like him who could potentially do all that he could also when it came to shooting. “Do you need to grab my hand? Or can you just sense that I have powers?” Caden didn’t know how it worked. He guessed maybe it was by physical contact but maybe Ethan was just that damn good that he could just look at someone and spill the beans without having to try. --- "Well I have to actually activate so..." Ethan trailed off as he lifted a dark eyebrow. "Generally speaking it's hard for people not to realise I'm doing it." He could get a good read on another super's abilities by just looking at them but touch allowed him to get a full map of these and the current limits He settled his light hazel gaze on Caden’s face and he consciously activated his power sensing ability at which point he felt a distinct tightening in his stomach which soon translated into a much more vivid sensation as he continued to reach out and his observation was apparent in how that gaze grew far more intense in the concentration taken to understand what he was feeling. “Enhanced vision,” he spoke slowly. “With the ability to track.” And then there was a very familiar sensation, one he knew intimately. “Also, enhanced marksmanship.” His lips tugged apart to expose slightly sharper canines. “Looks like we have that in common.” And there was something else. “And super strength.” He blinked himself out of it a moment later. “Touch helps me get a full map of the abilities and the limits so no need unless I want to or need to to get an indepth understanding.” --- “Enhanced vision in this eye,” he said, helping Ethan out a bit by pointing to his left eye. “And tracking in my right.” Caden was told that his ability seemed to manifest as a physical one as well. He was never known to have blue eyes but the moment he got his first power of enhanced vision his left eye had turned blue, bleeding into it as there was a touch of brown in there still, a reminder that once upon a time Caden was considered...normal. “And yeah, I have to close one of my eyes when I’m using one or the other. I was told that maybe eventually both eyes will sort of share the same field of vision.” Enhanced vision worked wonders with Caden’s ability to shoot things. It was difficult for him to miss and because he had a left eye that could see the distance he didn’t even need a scope. The super strength aspect of him was still somewhat new. Again, Caden really didn’t have the chance to train in that category since for the first couple of years he was just trying to make sure he didn’t break off door handles. ---- Ethan took note of each eye as Caden pointed them out, he had noticed the difference in colour but hadn’t pinned it on powers. Interesting manifestation, he was lucky though, he could have had a much worse physical sign of his powers like some of the supers in Limbo. “So, spot on then,” Ethan said with a small smirk. It was nice to know that he hadn’t gotten rusty because that was always a concern because it wasn’t like he went around sensing everybody else’s powers. He didn’t mention the fact that with his power mimicry that if he were to touch another super he would take on their power with all the current control that was already in place. --- He didn’t see any danger in revealing what he had to someone who could literally find out anyway because of the ability Ethan had. It was like trying to hide something in a locked box while the other person already had the key. It made little sense and Caden was typically smarter than that, he knew when things were a lost cause. Much like his situation and how he knew that he was at the mercy of the Regiment who owned him. “I mean, I know we’re not on the same teams or anything but telling you what I can do is okay with me. I don’t have anything to hide.” Caden just wanted to get to know the people that he could. He didn’t forget that Ethan had been around so who was to say that he would be gone someday? At least they had right now to get to know each other. Talking about anything else before the Regiment was different, though. Caden didn’t think that he could talk about the things that happened before he was discovered to be a super. He had never told anyone about his ruthless father and his mother who, in the end, wasn’t really the kind of person who loved her son enough to keep his secret. --- "You're probably one of a few," Ethan shared. "A lot of people like to keep secrets in this place. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't." Ethan on the other hand was closed off, didn't willingly share too much information, and waited until he knew somebody well enough to know if they were worth all that effort and trust to earn that from him. He stepped backwards to go that much deeper into the room before he glanced around himself because as open as Caden a person's room told you a lot about them. "So..." he drawled, turning his head to regard the other over his shoulder. "Music?" --- “Oh, right.” Caden smiled as he shifted a bit so that he could grab his MP3 player. It was really one of the only electronics he had. Caden remembered being told how there was certain things agents could have. A music player seemed harmless although Caden couldn’t put any music on it himself. Back at the youth facility he had to basically ask someone to do it for him. It was all part of the rules. He didn’t mind handing it over to Ethan so that the other super could look through it. It was pretty basic and easy to scroll through. “So, I like The Foo Fighters a lot. I think you have some OneRebuplic in there. Coldplay.” Caden had a lot of artists shoved into that tiny thing. He liked all kinds of music and wasn’t afraid to share his taste in it. “You might even find a Taylor Swift song or two.” Caden raised a brow as he laughed. He wasn’t even joking about that. --- Ethan took the MP3 player from Caden and gave it a good once over but it definitely seemed simple enough, thankfully. “Taylor Swift?” He repeated, regarding Caden through dark lashes and with an equally raised dark eyebrow. He resisted the urge to give a disbelieving laugh and simply inhaled, rolling his eyes a little. “I won’t say anything seeing as you’re being nice to lend me your music.” “I’ll have this back to you asap,” he promised. “I know how much I need music so wouldn’t want to deprive anyone else of it.” --- “Take your time. I can live a couple of days without it.” Caden knew it would be a little difficult not having something to listen to but it was worth sharing with someone who actually cared enough to want to take part in shared interests. Caden really didn’t make friends easily - at least not friends who actually were his friends. He knew that the people at his school were just afraid of him. They didn’t care about him at all so this? Even something this simple? It was nice. “But you’ll owe me. Maybe you could train with me? I know that I have my team and all but you and I can go toe to toe too, right?” Caden did a mock punch, his lips smacking together to make a small popping sound, as if to mimic a hit. “You can tell me how much you loved the music on there because I’m sure you will.” --- Ethan watched with some bemusement at the mock punching complete with sound effects and he answered it with a nod and smirk. “Alright, you got a deal.” It never hurt to train and if Caden was offering then Ethan wasn’t going to say no especially as he was willing to lend Ethan his music player for a couple days. “Just let me know when you wanna go a couple rounds and we’ll do it.” He still wasn’t a hundred percent convinced that he would enjoy all the music on the player but he was reserving judgment until he heard it for himself. “I figure we can probably use the normal gym rather than the hologym unless of course you want to do it with powers?” --- “Well, my powers aren’t really for show. I’m good with the normal gym.” Caden knew that his super strength could be contained and he really didn’t want to use that against someone living. He knew that other supers were probably capable of handling themselves but Caden just wasn’t there yet in terms of trusting his own ability. Everything else was fine and he didn’t need the hologym for basic gun training or target shooting. “You check out the music and once you bring it back we’ll set a date.” It seemed fair in his mind. Once Ethan got what he needed then the two of them could talk about when they could train. Of course Caden hoped for sooner rather than later but he guessed it all depended on how much Ethan liked his music. --- “I’ll do that,” Ethan said with a nod of his head. “Guess I’d better get started on that so we can figure out when we can start.” He started towards the door though paused to look back at Caden. “It was nice to meet you and again, thanks for this.” With a parting smile which was definitely more of a smirk Ethan let himself out, figuring Caden had stuff he wanted to get on with and he was curious about what other music he had on his player if he liked Taylor Swift. |
