The trip in from the West Texas Regiment literally only took a moment thanks to traveling by portal, yet when Bryan Murphy stepped through the open rift he was greeted by an unexpected sight. Four guards stood at the ready; all well armed and apparently ready for a fight. Instead of being taken to his handler for debriefing the super found himself being escorted away until he was brought into the cleared out Hologym...and brought face to face with a pretty boy in a slick suit. With a nod from Eric Hawthorne the guards just left them alone, yet Void's focus had already shifted away from the other men as that softly glowing aura of Eric's demanded his full attention. There was no denying what he was sensing, the guy standing before him was a super. "Hello there, I am Eric Hawthorne. I apologize for the lack of manners, or proper warm welcome, Mister Murphy but after realizing just who you were...and what you could do, well I knew we needed to speak privately before you could be released into the general population here." Already those eyes of Eric's locked onto Bryan's seeking to enthrall the man all while a wave of pheromones rolled across the room in calming waves. For his part Void just remained standing right where he was, gazing back and studying Hawthorne intently for a moment. Oh he wasn't a fool by any stretch, and could sense the attempt the man in the suit was making to control his mind. However Void just offered a slight sigh and finally shook his head...before suddenly closing the short gap between them and clocking Eric right across the jaw with a heavy fist. A look of surprise, and shock, swept across Eric's face as the force of the punch sent him crashing to the floor.
In all his years no one had ever managed to resist both his hypnotic gaze and the pheromones...yet in the blink of an eye Void was there, grabbing Eric by the tie and just pummeling Eric with that fist. "Hate to burst your bubble, prick, but that shit won't work on me...I got your number now and know exactly what ya can do, and when I'm done with you the other handlers will know too." There was no real anger, or any emotion in Void's tone at all...even as he just lashed out at the other man Murphy seemed to take no pleasure in it at all. In truth all he really felt was a mild annoyance, since he had skipped dinner back at the other base and was looking forward to grabbing some grub here. But instead of getting to do that now he'd have to handle this slick piece of shit...which meant all kinds of reports and a whole series of debriefings too...
Eric, though bloodied and battered, wasn't going down without a fight. Oh the handler may have been used to simply using a smile to get his way but he had been an FBI agent for years, and was trained in combat too. So as Void's fist rose up once again Hawthorne reached out and grabbed the front of his shirt, using the man's momentum to flip him off of Eric. The last thing he had wanted was to kill Bryan, but having his secrets exposed...well that would not do at all. Too much was at stake to have some grunt screw it all up now. So without hesitation when Hawthorne was free from the other man's grip the handler drew his side arm and proceeded to empty the clip right into Void's chest. "I am truly sorry, Mister Murphy..." With a sigh Eric stood up at last, wiping the blood from his broken nose off onto his sleeve, yet as he started to turn towards the entrance of the Hologym the sound of little metal bullets were heard falling onto the floor.
"Fucker...that shit stings." Void grunted as he got up, a look of annoyance and now anger seen in his eyes as the man looked down at the blood and holes in his favorite shirt. Oh it wasn't the first time he had been shot, but it still wasn't an experience he longed to repeat again. Granted that regenerative healing factor he had stolen from another super certainly came in handy, but as he dug out another bullet from his body and let it fall to the ground Void actually found himself wondering if he'd be better off absorbing something like intangibility or maybe some indestructible skin power instead. When the last of the bullet wounds healed up before their eyes Bryan just shook his head and turned his gaze back to the handler. "Yeah...I'm going to break your legs now...maybe even your arms just for good measure." Oddly enough it wasn't a threat, as much as a simple statement of fact, yet Hawthorne knew with absolute certainty that Void was telling the truth. His powers had failed, and killing the man failed too, which meant that Eric was rapidly running out of options.
However before Void took a step closer Eric tried one last Hail Mary. "Alexander Murphy!" Just hearing the name of his son said aloud gave Bryan pause, and the man went still for a second as he waited to see just why the fuck Eric had brought up the boy. "Your six year old son, currently residing with your parents in Rhode Island...you keep my secret, and of course skip that whole leg breaking bit, and I will give you 2.5 million dollars, setup in a trust for your son. Hell pick the most prestigious boarding or private school in the world, and I will throw in a full scholarship to it for him as well....what do you say Mister Murphy? Is keeping my secret worth ensuring the future of your only son?" For a moment time seemingly stood still as Void seriously contemplated the offer. Oh he had money, had saved up enough to keep his family well provided for thanks to working in the private sector for a few years. But the offer on the table was damn fine, the kind of cash and education that could set his boy up for success for the rest of Alex's life.
At last the lingering silence broke, and with his mind made up Void drew closer to Eric once more...that fist of his hammering right into the guy's already broken nose with a final punch. "You owe me a new shirt too, Mister Hawthorne...this was my favorite one." Without saying another word Void strolled right out of the Hologym, leaving Eric laid out on the floor as the newcomer headed out to find the cafeteria. "...wonder if they have tater tots on the menu here." Alone at last Eric finally stirred, looking slightly dazed and all manner of bloody. Still a slight smile quickly spread across his face as the man reached up to gingerly touch his broken nose. With a grunt he set it back into place and let out a sigh as he tapped into his power to mend up the injuries he had sustained. Oh it hurt like a son of a bitch, yet when the handler was done he finally stood up and straightened his tie. "That went as well as could be expected...though were the hell am I supposed to procure such a shitty shirt from?" With a slight shrug to himself Eric reholstered his sidearm at last, and casually started making his way back to his office...looking forward to getting out of his bloody clothes, and into a clean freshly pressed shirt and new suit.
