He didn't want to lead them on. He wanted to live with the slight hope that they could get out of there if they wanted to. He wanted to think they could get away without making too many waves. But he knew that wasn't a life any of them needed to lead. Hiding away from the government that he wanted to steer in the right direction when it came to changing their minds. "Yeah...but...they shouldn't be here, Orla. They won't survive it. Something will give, they'll be forced to kill someone. How am I supposed to fix that for them? How am I supposed to protect them from that?"
He didn't think they would ever send Sandy into the field again once they figured out the codependency issues she had. Or any of the issues that she had. He was hopeful of that. He wasn't sure that he'd be able to shield Cal. Or Tammy and Cassidy from such an ordeal.
He nodded, he knew that the people who lived here for decades were pretty much a lost cause. It would be like introducing a caveman to the modern era. They wouldn't know how to function in the real world and a part society. They had grown up in a place that had taught them their powers were the government's to do with what they wanted to.
He smiled as he looked up at her, shrugging where he was laying. "I think self-confidence could still get me pretty damn far considering." He winked, looking up at her. He really couldn't imagine life without Orla in it. Regardless of his feelings towards the Outsiders and the love he had for them. He knew he'd come apart at the seams and lose his head if he didn't have her there to keep it straight. He listened to her talk before a curious expression crossed his face and he glanced up at her. "You might be the sneakiest one out of all of us."
