"That depends on what you deem as funny. I don't make jokes lightly. It'll be something you get used to." Lucas was sure he had a sense of humor, somewhere under the mask he'd so heavily worn for the last several years. But it was something that he'd either forgotten to put into use or something he just deemed unnecessary for the time being. They shared laughs, quite frequently when no one was around when he thought about it. But it was neither here nor there or relevant to this occasion. "You can make requests for items you want at the Shopette. See...we're accommodating. If you don't feel like cafeteria food." Not saying they could cook per say. The looming threat of someone 'accidentally' trying to burn the building down existed.
"If being the key word there. If SEA goes through. The way I have learned...bureaucracy can be bought and sold just as easily as going to the store to pick something up." He paused for a moment, studying the atmosphere of the situation. He knew, just like with any of the other supers -- if it was a fair fight he'd never win. If they'd give into their more baser instincts of survival he wouldn't be standing in front of her. There was more than one occasion where he should've been taken down for the count. In a perfect world, maybe that did happen.
But he was standing there now, unfortunately. "What my personal preferences are and what I am paid to do...are not mutually exclusive. But you know how the saying goes: love what you do." Lucas watched the emotions change across her face, in her eyes. The anger and pain that brewed inside her just like it did with many other supers in a similar situation. Not many of them had a chance to look the person who turned them in directly in the eye. He was sure not many would be able to hold themselves back. But perhaps he was wrong. He hoped he was.
Despite the range of emotions that seemed to be storming within Jade. Lucas remained unaffected by what this meant. What impact he had on her life or non-life as many would call it now.
