Syreni wasn’t the most social butterfly in the facility. Having been here a month, she had barely just started talking on the net to others. Figuring it was a good a time as any to make… friends since it seemed like more and more supers were appearing, which meant it would be a bit harder to keep to herself at some point. She could have stayed within her room, but despite the air being all the way, it wasn’t enough for her. So she would make her way towards the leisure room, where it was a bit more cooler at the moment.
Her slender frame coming to rest right under the ac, as she felt the cool air hit her skin, it was refreshing. Oh Syreni could tolerate the heat, but she much rather surround herself with the cold. White hair would be tied back for the moment as her legs came crossed over one another as that device rested within her grasp. She hadn’t talked to a lot of people. Just a few and that was fine for her. As she came to lean back and exhale for the moment, light smoke escaping her lips from the cold that surrounded her, she smiled. Looking to the bracelets. Least, it didn’t cut off her powers completely.
Piercing sapphire eyes came to look around her finally, as she tilted her head for the moment. She couldn’t be entirely sure, but it seemed as though Aidan was also in the same area as her. Mister charmer himself. As she came to stare a bit longer, she nodded her head. Yeah, that was him. Syreni wasn’t one to being playful or anything. But seeing how she was stuck here, she figured it wouldn’t hurt to break out her shell.
Slowly she came to take in a deep breath, eyes focusing on Aidan for the moment, as she came lightly maneuver her fingers that rested over her crossed legs in his direction. It wasn’t anything big she was making, but that small cloud would form above his unkempt hair and soon the feel of light snowflakes would be felt falling over his head. Once the flurrie was created, she was able to relax her hand for the moment, as that creation itself didn’t take a lot out oher or needed much of her concentration so long as she kept it focused on Aidan.
--
It was no secret that Aidan was not social, anti-social in fact, and all kinds of abrasive and confrontational. He hadn’t attempted to hide that fact, he was here, against his will and had for however many years banged his head against the wall that the Regiment put up so well. He didn’t care for bullshit and had no interest in playing nice so generally speaking he called things as he saw them, didn’t matter if it hurt people’s feelings.
He was sat on a chair idly doodling to pass the time as boredom had definitely long since set in and he had zero desire to visit the hologym because yeah no and there was only so much staring at the wall in his bedroom that he could do before he wound up doing something he knew he’d regret.
This was after all his last stop before jail.
It was as he was doodling that he became aware of a chill in the air that was most definitely not the AC unit and then he felt something on his hair. “What the fuck?” He spoke aloud as a hand to his hair and he came away damp and then upon further inspection by a tilt of his head he came upon the apparent flurry of snow happening above him.
Okay, real fucking funny.
Immediately he turned his attention to the room, to locate the source.
*
Syreni wasn’t social by the least. Least not until that day when she decided to finally speak up. Still, talking over a screen was different from talking in person. She knew she was slightly awkward. Having kept to herself for so long did that to people. So, why of all the people in the building had she diced to mess with Aidan? If anyone asked her that question, she would just shrug her shoulders at them.
Luckily the small cloud wasn’t enough to need her full focus on. So she was able to just go back to her phone. Her frame sitting directly under the AC for the time being, as white hair lightly bew against the cool breeze. But piercing sapphire eyes would come to lift from her phone as she glanced around.
A slight smirk made when she saw the annoyance in Aidan’s face. But her attention went back to her phone. Or at least as much as possible. She was well aware they were both on the same team, but neither of them had actually spoken to each other or even gone on the field together… Yet.
--
Aidan wasn’t an idiot. Far from it. It didn’t really take him very long to notice the sly looks and the ever so content with one’s self smirk that he saw coming from the blonde, the very same who looked like she’d walked through a snowstorm to get the colour hair that she had. She was either doing it or amused by it.
The worst thing of it was that he couldn’t even retaliate power for power as his unlike hers were switched off and apparently she thought the good way of using them was to be a dick.
“You think you’re funny don’t you?” He challenged, head tipping to look at her and make direct eye contact
*
When he spoke in her direction all Syreni did was shrug her shoulders. Piercing sapphire blues came to watch him as that flurry intensified slightly. But after a minute or two that small cloud would vanish.
The visible snow still resting on his head and hair for the moment as she came to brush her white hair from her face. “No.. But I thought it was amusing.” she said lightly as she came to a stand. Steps leading her towards him as she stare up to him for the moment.
From an outside view it looked like she was challenging him, but in reality Syreni was just awkward and had a habit of staring at people.
--
“You must not get out a lot,” Aidan countered with a snort and a roll his eyes. The pencil in hand was tapped against the table before he became very aware of her approach and her apparent need to stand over him. It was in fact like being challenged but Aidan to his credit didn’t rise to it but rather leaned back into his chair and affected a very casual devil may care position, eyes meeting that stare levelly. “You might want to look into that.”
He folded his arms across his chest.
“Not everybody might find it funny.”
*
When he stated that she didn’t get out much, she shrugged her shoulders lightly. Her frame leaning over to look at what he was doodling before looking back to him once more. Already she came to take a step back as she looked to Aidan once more for the moment. “Why are you angry?” She asked as she moved to take a seat next to him.
Once beside him she would brush her hair from her face. “You’re too pretty to be so angry.” She said honestly as she shrugged her shoulders for the moment. Her frame leaning back slightly as she kept her blue hues watching him. A tilt of her head still there, as she exhaled for the moment. That light cold fog escaping her lips as lightly as she came to close her mouth.
“I’m Syreni…”
--
Aidan had been doodling random geometric shapes along with some more abstract pieces that were surprisingly good but everybody had their secret talents after all. And then she said what he did and he just gave her a "what the fuck" expression because who told somebody that they were too pretty to be angry?
"Pretty sure anger has nothing to do with what you look like," he replied as he watched her closely given that she decided to sit herself next to him. And he definitely felt a chill, coming from Syreni, kind of hard to miss. Fuck.
He was a little taken aback by her sudden shift in her demeanour that had previously involved her screwing with him and was now wanting to introduce herself and get involved in a conversation. "And also, just for reference, my anger isn't up for debate or discussion. That's why it's called my anger."
Aidan tapped the edge of his pencil on the notebook. "Syreni? Where'd you get that name?" Obviously from her parents but it wasn't your a-typical first name.
*
She came to tilt her head once more when he said anger didn’t care what people looked like. “I suppose you are right…” She said as she came to look back to his drawing for the moment. “Still.. Why are you so angry..?” Sure he said it wasn’t up for discussion but Syreni ignored it.
She came to brush her white hair from her face for the moment. “You make a lot of funny faces also…” She said about the annoyed looks he gave. But when he asked about her name, she shrugged her shoulders. “It’s Latin for mermaid.” Which she thought was a bit amusing, since Syreni looked nothing like a mermaid.
--
“I’m only going to say this one more time,” Aidan began. “None of your business.” And if she kept pressing then Aidan was just going to leave. His head, his anger, his business. It was just that simple.
Mermaid? Seriously?
Aidan’s eyebrows lifted and he made a small sound of disbelief. “Alright, weird, but alright.” Thankfully his parents for as shitty as they were hadn’t done him the disservice of giving him a name like that. He really didn’t want to entertain a conversation about his name each time he met somebody new.
-
“Weird?” She asked with a tilt of her head for the moment. “How or why is it weird?” He was the second person to ask about her name… Which made Syrei wonder if she should simply give a different name when introducing herself, or just not. She was still trying to figure out this whole, not being so antisocial thing.
“I like your drawings.” She said as she pointed to the notepad. But as she glanced at him once more, she reached a hand out and brushed at the top of his hair. A bit of remaining snow falling off as she came to look at her wet hand. A small snowman created before turning into snow dust and disappearing in the air.
--
Seriously? Aidan just stared at her like she’d just asked him if the Pope was Catholic. “Your folks called you Mermaid, you don’t think that’s weird?”
Thankfully for Syreni Aidan was so distracted by hurriedly closing up his notepad to take in the full extent of the touch to his hair, especially as he didn’t do well with unexpected touch. Could say it came from years of being on the receiving end of a tirade of abuse at the hands of somebody he was supposed to be able to trust and somebody meant to love him.
He watched her as she accessed her powers so easily and freely and not for the first time since his arrival at the different facilities he felt a distinct twinge of jealousy. “Yeah, well, they help to pass the time.”
--
She shrugged at the mention of her name being weird. “Never thought about it..” She said as she came to watch him close his notepad suddenly. If Syreni knew Aidan had an issue with being touched, she wouldn’t have done it. Least not without permission anyways. But she didn’t know Aidan to know his triggers.
When he looked at her powers and made that face she bawled her hands and rested them on her thighs for the moment. She wasn’t sure who could and couldn’t use their powers here. And the way he looked made her assume he couldn’t. “Why do you make that face?” She asked with a tilt of her head for the moment.
--
“What face?” He asked, tapping the end of his pencil against the notepad. He had an inkling but he wanted to be certain, Aidan definitely did not enjoy being made to look like a fool so he asked questions, lots of questions, mostly to be awkward and other times to make sure he understood the actual context.
--
-
“Like this” She said trying to imitate his annoyed/frustrated face the best she possibly could. “I can’t do it like you.” She said with a shrug of her shoulders. Already she came to brush her hair from her face once more as she came to shift in her seat so she was facing him a little more.
Legs coming to cross over each other as she rested her hands on her thighs once more. Sapphire eyes coming to stare at Aidan for the moment. “What can you do?” Asking, since she was curious what the others could do.
--
“I’m an angry person,” Aidan returned easily, not really wanting to get into the fact he was in fact controlled and restrained in ways that others weren’t. The bracelet on his wrist was enough of a reminder of that fact and he quite honestly wished he could just rip it right off, but it was resistant to sabotage which he had learned the hard way on more than one occasion.
He pushed a breath out and began to twirl the pencil between his fingers.
“I’m a geokinetic,” or at least that’s what he’d been told. So I can cause earthquakes that kinda thing.”
--
“Oh. “ She said with a hint of interest in her tone as her eyes widen slightly. She did take notice of his bracelet, but said nothing about it since she had her own. “What.. do they call you?” Asking as she tilted her head for the moment. Tucking her hair behind her ear.
A light lick to her lips ass he came to bite at her bottom lip for the moment, before releasing it.
“They call me Frostie.” She said with a shrug of her shoulders. It really wasn’t rocket science as to why they called her that. But like him she had a bracelet, but hers only limited her powers to small parlor tricks in a sense.
--
“Aidan?” He returned as that was his name after all and sure he had a codename, but he didn’t think of that as his name. Not like he’d come into the world as Terra. He continued to flip and twirl the pencil through his fingers which in itself revealed the dexterity present in that particular hand.
Frostie? As in Frosty the Snowman?
“Did you pick that name or did you get given it?”
--
“Given.” She replied as she came to look to his hand with that pencil twirling. “You’re really good at that.” She said pointing to his hand with the pencil twirling about. She had a light smile on her features when she pointed, but quickly sucked in her lower lip as she came to stare back at him.
“How long have you been here, in Limbo?” She was curious by nature. So Syreni would ask question. Plus, it would help her get out her shell to know how to interact with people. So far, she thinks she is doing okay.
--
“Early February,” Aidan replied with a shrug. “I mean I don’t remember the exact date because what’s the point, right? They move us around however the fuck they like.” Limbo was “last chance salon” or so he’d been told, if he didn’t play ball here then jail was on the cards.
Fucking dictatorship.
He pushed a hand into his hair before dropping it to the table again. He was feeling restless, antsy even.
“You?
--
“You’ve been moved around?” She’d asked with an arched brow for the moment. “From where?” Asking as she came to take note of his question. “A few hours. “ She answered lightly as she came to exhale deeply for the moment. Syreni was well aware she was one of the newcomers here. And already she was already bugging Aidan people.
“You’re.. The first person I’ve talked to in person since arriving here.” She said with a firm nod of her head. “I have talked to a few others though. Just… not in person.”
--
“I was in West Texas,” Aidan replied. Limbo was at least better than that facility so that was about the only plus. And he wasn’t alone here. Selena had transferred at the same time as himself so it was nice to have a familiar face.
And of all the people she’d picked to interact with face to face it was him.
Definitely not the best first impression of Limbo.
-
“I was in Alaska.” She said with a smile on her lips, when she thought about Alaska and the cold. Still she came to lookat Aidan for the moment. Eyes looking down to his bracelet as she lightly touched it with her pinky. “What’s your limiter do?” Asking for the most part.
Sure, Maybe Aidan wasn’t the best person to talk to face to face, but so far she didn’t really seem to mind. Right now, he didn’t really seem all that bad.
“Hungry?” She asked suddenly as she came to ask as she bite at her bottom lip once more. But a slight smile was seen, before disappearing quickly. “I was thinking of seeing if they had any snacks around.”
--
Aidan arched a distinctly unimpressed eyebrow as Syreni lightly touched his bracelet because he had not at any point invited her pinky to touch his stuff. He made this known by moving his arm out of reach. “Which one? I have two.” One in the back of his neck and the one around his wrist, one didn’t fully control them whereas the other one shut everything down and did so.
The question about being hungry was so random and so out of left field that Aidan was certain he was getting some sort of whiplash from this conversation.
“Not particularly, but you knock yourself out.”
-
When he said he wasn’t hungry Syreni nodded and shrugged her shoulders a second later. When he mentioned having two limits she frowned a bit. She was still a bit new to the whole Regiment and how they worked thing. But still, she gave him a slight face. “I didn’t know you could have more than one…” SHe said as she came to a stand.
“I’ve bugged you enough. I’m going to get some food.” She said with another nod as she brushed her hair back. “I’ll see you around.” She said with a very faint smile before lightly waving her fingers in his direction and walking towards the kitchen. Least, she hoped it was the kitchen since she was still learning this place.
