Avery watched Lucas frown at the mention of Bear and she just lifted a shoulder. "It's not stupid shit. Last time I saw him he had a fractured sternum and had ruptured his spleen and kidney. I don't even know what it is he does in the Hologym so regularly that he's in my office once or twice a week but whatever it is, he's obviously still not learned his limits." She rubbed the back of her neck, frowning a little. "You'd not... seriously pull me off medical rotation, would you?" she asked, looking a little concerned.
His words were harsh, but Avery knew they came from a place where he wanted to help her and protect her from the idiots who didn't know their own limits. Like Bear. He knew the toll it took on her, even if she did her best to hide it from those that she was healing and some of them didn't bother sticking around to say thank you or lacked the observational skills to notice the toll it took.
She took a couple of steps backwards and stumbled a little, catching herself on a waist-high wall. She'd have bruises by the end of this.
"So which are you?" she asked after a moment. "Doing a job or working a lie?"
