"It is what it is." He said after a moment, allowing the sorrow, the weight of the knowledge to settle for a moment. "I wish things were different but... that's not something I can change. What I can do, is help my team. Try to make it a little better." Because he doubted SEA would actually pass. At least, not at first. A version of it would eventually pass, that he had no doubts about, but it would need to go under revisions and concessions on both sides would likely need to be made first.
"Yes, Evie." He made a little face, "We're often encouraged to refer to agents by your codenames." Because then it was easier to distance oneself from the people under their care. It was easier to dehumanize them. Despite his best attempts, the protocols he was used to would sometimes slip back in.
"I don't think the people here will mind what you look like. I had one agent who had entirely green skin, goat horns and feet, and clawed fingers. I've seen agents with blue fur, yellow eyes, blue spade tails and only four fingers on each hand. I've seen people entirely covered in orange scales... my point Juniper. Here might actually be a place where looks might not be important." He sighed, "I know it's not easy to hear... but it's true. I would be your friend if I wasn't your handler. Unfortunately, that role has to come first... but I need you to know, that I do care about you. I care about your happiness. I care about your safety... and if you need this device to help you, I'll put some pressure on the admin to help Evie along."
"Trust me. Just ... keep your eyes covered because it will be a bit bright. I think you'll like what I have in store..." He didn't move until he thought she would follow. Then, and only then, did he move toward the door and guide her toward the hologym.
"This is the hologym... somewhere you can fly without worries of anyone activating your limiter." He started working on a dusk program so as to offer her some light without hurting her eyes. Once the program started, a small meadow appeared, with plenty of wild flowers such as one might find out in the midwest appeared, along with a vast sky that had a slowly setting sun in the distance.
