"You didn't need to join me." He smiled softly, showing he wasn't mad but actually quite appreciative. He would have joined her on her bed if he thought she would have been more comfortable sitting side by side up there.
"I know you didn't." He hesitated for a second, his eyes briefly avoiding contact with her. Well, it looked like two agents would learn his history pretty quick. So much for keeping it underwraps. "My father didn't either...He was a doctor. My brother was just another high school student. So was my sister."
They were ordinary people like her, just trying to live their lives. Well, save for Jim. He had been trying to help others. Max and Josephine had just been trying to survive high school like any other teenager.
"I don't ever expect you to like it here Juniper. This isn't home." his eyes dropped again. "This is where you are now though. I'm sorry for that. I'm sorry that people like me think there's something wrong with people like you." His eyes looked back to hers.
He considered give her the 'people will always hate' speech, but that wouldn't have been truly helpful for a young woman that had bird features.
"...I'll talk to Argus and Tinker." He might not like that, but if it made her a little happier and helped her adjust, then who was he to deny her.
"I'm ... not the best at these things Juniper. I'm trying. I wish there was something more I can do. Something I could say to help you feel better." His eyes caught her wings again as they quivered a little from the tension required to hold them so close to herself.
"There is one thing. Come with me." He stood up and offered his hand to help her up.
