"You didn't have to," Sandy commented, hauling herself up to sit beside him. She'd seen him jump a little and it made her smile but she said nothing. She didn't know him, but he had the same kind of look about him as Cal; he'd not admit to jumping and also she'd probably have ended up putting him on the defensive and that was never a good way to start a friendship.
As she settled - away from where his smoke was being carried - she added, "I can hear you thinking about how much you hate this place from the canteen. No actual mind-reading required."
