Juniper followed Mira into the kitchen carefully, twisting her body so that she didn't smack the other woman with her wings as she passed her. The kitchen was dark, even with the candle-light, and it took a moment for her eyes to adjust but when they did, she could see clearly. It was one of the few blessings of her ocular mutation; extremely good low-light vision.
When she looked back at Mira, suddenly bashful because it appeared that the woman could see her now, her wings retracted a little as her shoulders lifted defensively. Her own eyes caught in the candlelight were an amber-yellow, large pupils allowing the light in.
"Uh- ham?" she answered, biting her lower lip and watching Mira move around the room, head tilting to the side ever so slightly when she got another look at the woman's eyes. Her vision was good enough that she could identify slight, but distinct differences in the colour but didn't comment on it. It was rude. "I- my mom always made cheese and ham." She rocked up onto her toes and then back onto her heels, wings flexing restlessly. She hadn't flown in days either, not since before she arrived, and she could feel the restlessness kicking in. "I used to share my leftovers with the birds."
She blinked a couple of times and then asked, "Can you see in the dark?"
