Since the start of the new year, things had moved at a fantastic pace for Isi Romero. On the tail of her speaking to Congress about the Superhuman Equality Act, she'd been actually approached by members of the military about working with supers who were being held in captivity. There had always been conspiracy theories about the captive supers being used as weapons, but no one had ever confirmed or denied the actual use of them. Many people would think that it was a human rights violation, while still more would think it was the best way to make use of them while they were in captivity. Isabella never held her tongue when someone asked her about this situation. She felt it was cruel for so many to be held in captivity just because of their natural abilities. Yes, the need guidance to make sure they weren't dangerous to themselves and those around him, but that guidance didn't need to come in the form of being locked away for life. The vetting process for her to become part of the facility started January 1st and, while she wanted more than anything to expose these inhuman facilities for the cruel torture that they were, Isi found herself recognizing that these were a necessary evil in a world where being different meant you were less than human. She didn't have to like it, but she could definitely stand up for those who could not stand on their own. Gaining access to these locked up supers and gauging their treatment would help her in the long haul. She would know where they stand and how they felt about the coming tide of change. She would also be there to help them cope with the new change that she was sure was going to happen. Oh, the whole thing was spun to Isabella in such a wonderful way, but as the vetting process droned on over the weeks of January, she began to wonder exactly what she was getting into. In the end of the whole thing, Isi was granted a "Secret" level of clearance and site access to the flagship facility for the government's own super-soldier program. Her arrival in Limbo on Friday wasn't trumpeted or announced. She simply arrived one day with the possessions she wished to keep in her room. It was a 24-hour job and, as such, they had requested that she stay on-site. This also avoided any potential breeches of access or leaks from the site. Isi imagined that the population of the area would probably not like the idea that a facility full of human-sized nuclear weapons were housed just a few miles from their homes. She was escorted to her room where her ID key cards were waiting for her, as well as several files that she was supposed to read and sign. The young woman helping her settle was kind enough, but this wasn't what she expected for a facility that was supposed to be a torture chamber. It almost seemed... nice. By Sunday morning, Isabella was prepared to tour the facility. She started with her office and the offices of those who would be working beneath her. Her new job paid well, but she was more interested in learning about those who lived here. How were they? What did they think about their upbringing? This was the info she needed to be a more effective advocate for these people. They weren't allowed to advocate for themselves since, technically, they weren't real citizens. The Debility Act was a bad stain on the U.S. that she hoped to help wash out eventually. Knowing the history of her country, she knew it was a massive uphill battle. Her walk from the psych offices to the barracks was short. The grounds were so well kept that knew it had to be a government facility. The one thing about government work that always rang true was that they kept the outside pretty, even in the inside was a mess. Isi stepped inside the first floor, her id card letting her inside with a quiet beep. The woman was dressed appropriately for her status as a new administrator, business dress with heels and all that jazz. She would definitely stand out against any agent or handler that was here in casual clothes. She took a few moments to lay her eyes on the lounges and could almost believe that this wasn't a prison at all. Maybe she really was thinking the worst of something? The girl who had been working with her all weekend was really sweet, but she didn't really feel like the traditional small talk while she looked around. In reality, Isi wanted to look around alone, but they thought it best she be escorted until she learned her way around. Never mind the fact that she could read a damn map. "So, as you can see, the facility is actually very spacious and nice." Isi nodded and agreed, "Oh, sure, sure. But what about their rooms? I'd like to see one." |
