Georgia shifted uncomfortably in Toby's lap. Her heart had sank and the fun she was having sitting in his lap had dissipated. She didn't know why he was being ... well she couldn't name what he was being, but it certainly wasn't being too much fun. She knew she was over sensitive, but it certainly wasn't all her fault.
The only thing which would've made Georgia doubt their ability to date (as she definitely did wonder if she would date anyone she was attracted to) was that she had known him since she could remember. She wasn't the silly sort of girl who worried about risking a friendship, instead it was a matter of viewing him as a possible date. Which, normally sitting in the lap of a boy would prompt such thoughts, but Georgia was inherently naive.
Georgia's attitude was invigorated by his laughter. "You have a nice laugh," she said absently, as if it was thought that she had mistakenly mentioned aloud. She tucked her hair behind her ear and took a look at him, as he turned away. Was that his way of dealing with things? Not looking at her? She contemplated getting up off of his lap, but stayed put either way.
She sat there for a moment, not at all enjoying the silence. Finally she decided that she wasn't going to let this, once fun opportunity, die. "I don't suppose you'd be interested in sign language?" It was beginning to seem it was all she had to offer, but it was better than having nothing.
