It was upon hearing this that Remus’ resolve began to crumble. As ludicrous as all this really was, something in the speech rang true. Sirius did act out in order to impress other people – he knew that as well as he knew the back of his own hand. That wasn’t to say that James didn’t goad him into those acts, but it was quite apparent why they did it in the first place. And really, if they didn’t encourage him in the first place, would that stop his behavior entirely? Most likely not. But the seed had been planted, so to speak, and Remus looked ill for it.
