If Fawn knew what a gift basket was, things would have made a lot more sense. Unfortunately, for nine year old Fawn, she was confused as to why a bunch of goodies were all in a basket. Including chocolate, which she had heard of, but never actually seen so close up. It must have been some kind of present, since it had a bow on it, and usually Victors got presents, didn’t they? She could hear heavy footsteps coming from the kitchen and back into the foyer area of the Victor’s home. Fawn scrambled away from the gift basket before Bolt could see her nearly salivating over it. He was holding some carrots. Fawn smiled and quickly darted out the door and down the steps. Thoughts of chocolate had all but disappeared. She would get to go riding! They had settled into their Training Floor for no more than an hour. Her tears were on pause for now. There was little hesitation on Fawn’s part as she popped a small square of chocolate into her mouth. She had never tasted anything so sweet in her life and probably should have spit it out, but she didn’t. She would ask Bolt to bring chocolate back to her parents, so that they could try it and maybe even give it to her friends if they didn’t finish it all. Taking two more pieces of chocolate, she ran off to find her district partner so he could give it a try. “What’s that one?” a young girl asked, pointing at a white square in the corner of the box, while all of her friends had already took a piece of chocolate and ran off. “White chocolate.” The girl, she must have been six or seven, looked up at Fawn with hesitation. Fawn leaned down and mustered a smile. “I think it tastes better than the other ones, it’s actually my favorite.” |
