Hopeful was what Missy was. Completely hopeful. This was the farthest one of her tributes had made it in so long. She hoped, no longed, for him to win. He could do it. Missy watched the screen, watched his every move. Sleep deprivation was becoming a thing because she did not wish to miss a thing. But as Alex stood in the Wax House, with the dripping and melted wax statues she watched. “No, go. Leave.” She said at first calmly to the screen as the wax statue of her beloved Alex was starting to melt. Though as Reaper appeared on the screen her arms flailed and she screamed. “RUN.” As if Alex could hear her. That she could stop this. But she couldn’t forced to sit and watch as the scene unfolded. But as Alex got a stab in she was hopeful perhaps he could fight this. Perhaps he could kill Reaper. Missy was a fluster and clutching the cushion of the couch. Though as Alex stopped fighting back she whimpered. He was dying. She closed her eyes tight attempting to fight back the tears. She wouldn’t cry, she couldn’t cry. Her last ones had not got this far. She should not have been hopeful. Never get your hopes up. Narses was right. It would be Reaper who brought an end to District 8’s hope. As the cannon boomed on the screen she looked up. Finally opening her eyes. She had not watched the killing blow. The tears trickled down her face as she knew for sure Alex was dead. Never get attached. How could she go back to District 8 after this one. She couldn’t. For some reason these two tributes were the ones that hit her the hardest. Maybe because Alex was a face she knew before the games? Maybe Ariadne was the one she liked the most with her awkward and weak honesty. How could people do this year after year? Was this how the victors felt. Because for the first time, this wasn’t fun. |
