WHO: Aramis Rosegold [D1].
WHAT: Careers can go on treasure hunts as well.
WHEN: Day 6; morning.
WHERE: The Lost and Found Office [G6].
STATUS: Complete narrative; plot slot.
Aramis had wandered past the Lost and Found building several times during the last five days while the Career pack took turns hunting throughout the arena, but he had long since stopped paying attention to it. It looked like the sort of place where there were probably plenty of supplies that could be looted, but every time he had tried to open the door, the damn thing was locked. And perhaps that wasn't such a bad thing -- with the way the Gamemakers seemed to be intervening even with the pack, there was likely a herd of muttations inside that would tear him apart before he could even step in and turn on the lights. Maybe it was safer if it remained locked-up forever. Except on this particular day, he felt like trying his luck. Someone had managed to find more medical supplies that must have come from the First Aid station next door -- when he peered through the windows, he could see some of the damage that must have occurred during a fight -- which was now locked again, as it had been the last time he had come across the building. Maybe it was the same with the Lost and Found office. It couldn't hurt to try -- unless it really was full of muttations. The door opened with a soft click, and Aramis tightened the grip on his dagger just in case -- but nothing and no one jumped out at him. In fact, the only things that seemed to be in the office was a large desk and numerous cabinets. Aramis walked over to the desk first, opening and shutting the drawers to see if there was anything useful that could be salvaged. But he could only find an old piece of paper that was tucked away in the very back of the lowest drawer. Once unfurled, he looked over it and smiled -- it was a map of the arena, with each of the attractions printed in bright colours, numbered, and carefully labeled with their names on the legend. The pack had been using landmarks to help guide them around while hunting, but this would help them find their way around without relying on haphazard mental maps that couldn't keep track of the arena as coherently. A little more rifling through the cabinets and he found a flashlight -- one of those bright LED ones he had seen in other Games. Obviously, this would be more useful than whatever little illumination moonlight provided for late-night hunts -- and he didn't fancy having to keep squinting like Brock all the time to be able to see anything in the dark. Perhaps it was a good look for a Two, but certainly not for a One like himself -- even if he had nice eyebrows. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be any weapons or medical supplies in the room -- two things the Careers needed more than anything else at this point, especially the latter -- but this would do for now. And the longer he stayed here doing nothing but opening drawers and cabinets instead of hunting down and killing other tributes, the more likely the Gamemakers would really send muttations after him again. He was already well on his way back to the Career camp before the door of the Lost and Found office shut itself again with a second click, remaining mysteriously locked once more. |
