WHO: Maxima Power and Zap Volta
WHAT: A meeting between friends before the reaping
WHEN: The day before reaping
WHERE: The village in District Five
STATUS: Complete
The district had been bustling as everyone was getting ready for the upcoming reaping. It was going to be happening tomorrow and the citizens of District Five were curious who was going to get picked. Who would make it in this round of the games. While Maxima, well, she had other things on her mind. She was going to be sixteen tomorrow! And once the silly reaping was done and over with, she could have the most amazing birthday party. But, out of the corner of her eye she saw her Zap and hoping she’d catch his attention, she waved before heading over to see him. Then again, she was curious what he had thought about the reaping and everything of the sort. It didn’t matter what day it was, really - Zap was always bustling. When he was a young child, his parents had often lamented the fact that he rarely ever seemed to sit still, and it was only since he’d joined the D5 workforce that his boundless energy had begun to seem slightly more like a gift than a burden. He was currently on his way home when he spotted Maxima and enthusiastically waved back at her before bounding over to meet her halfway. “Max! Happy day before your birthday! It must be so exciting, being sixteen and all. What are you planning on doing? Have you gotten any presents yet?” he said, in his usual cheerful, rapid-fire manner. Maxima always loved Zap's energy and all that. It was probably why she enjoyed having him as a friend. Well, besides her girlfriends and all. Then again, she didn't have much time after she was done with work and taking care of her siblings and all. She really did enjoy her work, but she kind of wanted something a bit more challenging. Maybe when she was age. But for now, she was going to enjoy life one day at a time. "Zap! Thanks and it totally is. As for plans, I have a party all in the works what with presents and all," Max said all enthused, how could she not be happy tomorrow? "I just have to wait until the Reaping is over. You are planning on coming to it, right?" “Your party or the Reaping? Because I didn’t think we had a choice on the matter of the latter.” he said breezily. “If you mean the party, though, of course I will! I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Oh, and by the way - “ Zap rustled through the bookbag he was carrying, digging through random spools of wire, tools, and leftovers saved from lunch. In a moment, he pulled out a small box, wrapped in newsprint and tied with a bow. He offered it to Maxima. “Here, I got you a present. I mean, it’s not much, but I think you’ll like it? You’ve gotta save it ‘til tomorrow, though.” "My party. The Capitol would have our heads if we didn't attend the reaping, unfortunately," Maxima said even if she wasn't looking forward to the reaping. But still, it would be quick and painless. But when Zap spoke up about something, her dour mood about the reaping went away as she became all smiles once Zap pulled out the box. "Thank you, Zap," she told him, graciously accepting said box, "It's the thought that counts. Though tell you what, it'll be the first one I open tomorrow." |
