WHO: Missy Tae
WHEN: interm 55/56
WHERE: Her parents house
WHAT: Birthday
STATUS: Narrative | Prompt Candles
With a big breath she blew. The loud escape of breath filled the air around her. While her family clapped around her, celebrating her life. As the sputter of her last breaths escaped she pulled back inhaling deep. Looking down to see a number of candles still remained. Her brother laughed, “You have eight boyfriends Missy.” She gave him a nasty look. “I do not. It is just hard to blow out 25 candles, okay.” She said a bit offended by her 17 year old brother. Her mother gave her that look that said, pay him no mind. Missy took another full breath and blew out of the rest of the candles. Though as she started to pick them off the cake, licking each one individually that she started to think of how many candles it really was. Twenty-five. What was she meant to accomplish by this time? Had she done it all? She’d like to think so. She was happy with how things were. Funny how candles could make you think. Strange how an number signified a milestone. Thoughts broken by her brother. “Hurry up. I want cake.” Missy looked at him and started to move even slower. Though she couldn’t hold it up for long as she started to laugh. “Who said you’re getting any,” she added. Lucas looked down right offended. “Well what did we learn Lu, don’t go telling me I’m slag.” Though as she said the words her father stiffed. She knew he wanted her to be married by now and settled down, no running off to be an escort. Maybe something more like a gamemaker like him, or a stylist assistant. She knew he hated her heading out into the districts. Though as she finally pulled out the last candle she started to reach for the knife, but her brother was there offering to serve it up. “Fine, go for it.” Missy shook her head. There in front of her a pile of licked, frosting free, candles that physically signified her age. Next year there would be twenty-six. Would she be okay with that, as okay as she was with twenty five? |
