Gwen hadn't really been surprised by the owl from Draco. Things had been a little shaky between him and Astoria the last few days, and she supposed it was inevitable that things would come to an end. Not that she'd know any of the details, the only time she'd spoken to Draco was whilst via journals whilst he was severely drunk. Still, she wasn't there for the gossip.

No, Draco needed her, and Gwendolyn had never been the sort to let a friend down. Having quilled a quick reply, Gwen sent a quick owl to Adrian before walking into the kitchen to grab a few glasses and a bottle for the occasion. Adrian had been over for the weekend and although he'd had to head home, as he had an early morning, she'd thought it best to update him, just in case. Walking back into the living room, Gwendolyn sat the glasses down on the coffee table and settled down on the sofa as she waited for Draco to arrive.

Though anger at Astoria had sobered him considerably, he was still fairly certain that to attempt to Floo or Apparate would be a mistake, so he walked to Gwen's place, thankful that it wasn't far away. He didn't bother to knock, though, just waved his wand to open the door and walked in, flopping on the couch beside her and covering his face with his hands.

"I thought I loved her, but she's fucking crazy," he said, reaching for the glass when it was offered and downing the contents in one gulp.

Gwendolyn had been surprised at first to hear the commotion at the door. Standing up, she picked up her wand to protect herself. Seeing that it was Draco, however, she quickly used it to close the door behind him before she settled back down on the sofa. Pouring him a glass, she let him get settled, before offering it.

"What happened?" She asked, confused as she turned a little so she could look at Draco properly.

Draco wasn't really sure where to start. He supposed everything had started to go downhill when he'd made the mistake of proposing. He hadn't needed to, he was sure of it, but it had been so important to her and he wanted her so much, he hadn't been thinking clearly.

Her behaviour towards Lily Moon during his engagement to her had been the first thing that had caused him concern. It was Lily's fault that she's wounded up with him, so the fact that Astoria had frozen Lily out had upset him. Then, when that was done, her suspicions about his relationship with Gwendolyn had made no sense to him, and eventually driven him right into the other woman's arms, though he did hate to be that predictable.

And tonight! Well, he supposed he deserved tonight, for what he'd said about Gwen having a shower with him, but it still wasn't an admission of anything, so he couldn't understand why she automatically assumed that meant they were sleeping together. He'd been so carefuly, not to get caught, never paying more or less attention to Gwen than he had before, and never, ever, having Gwen to his place, lest something be left behind to alert Astoria.

"She came over. I said something about you and she went crazy," he said, holding out his glass for more.

"About me? What did you say?" Gwendolyn asked, a bit alarmed at the thought. Even drunk, Gwen was sure that Draco wouldn't be daft enough to talk about the few flings they'd had. It wasn't like it was some sort of affair either, just a bit of fun.

When he held out the glass, Gwen refilled it, and filler her own as well. She wasn't planning on drinking too much, but a bit couldn't hurt, especially with the way things had been going lately. "I'm not surprised she went crazy though, there was always something about her that struck me as unstable. Surely one person cannot be that perfect at everything."

"Ah right." Gwen said softly, trying to keep a straight face, before she couldn't help herself and started to giggle. "Does she not like to shower?" Gwen asked, giggling a little harder this time as she sipped from her glass. She shook her head after a moment.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I know it's not something to laugh at, but what's the big deal with showering together, it's sexy."

Draco didn't laugh, but he didn't begrudge Gwen her amusement, either. If he had been feeling less like a complete moron, he might have laughed with her, but he couldn't help but wonder if it was him. He'd fallen for a sweet, pure girl that made him laugh and somehow, through being with him, she'd turned into something so much darker and scarier.

"She was just trying to take care of me, and I went and fucked it up," he said.

Taking another sip from her glass, Gwendolyn watched him briefly. He was upset, that much was obvious, but she didn't want him to blame himself fully. When he continued, Gwen frowned and rested her hand on his knee.

"Hey, hey, it's not your fault." She said, patting it lightly. "She was flying off the handle, darling." she moved to refill his glass. "I think you're better off knowing what she's like now, before you made some sort of permanent decision." She paused. "What do you mean she was trying to take care of you? You're not an invalid."

Ironically, after Astoria had left, he had showered, and shaved, and even tidied up. He still hadn't eaten, and he was a bit mad at himself that he'd upset Astoria before she'd cooked for him, cause she was rather good at it.

"I've spent the last week drunk, and I was a bit of wreck when she found me," he said. "It would be cheaper, and safer to get a House Elf, though. At least I wouldn't have to worry about them trying to murder me in my sleep."

"Were you? Is that why I haven't seen you?" She asked, frowning again as she looked at him in concern. Gwen had wanted to stop by, make sure that everything was okay, but with the way things had been going lately, had thought better of it, let him settle things himself.

"Probably. You can still get a house elf, I just wouldn't suggest one for a girlfriend, Draco" She said softly, as she leaned in to kiss his temple. "Let's get you some water, help with the hangover tomorrow." Gwen added as she slid off the sofa. "Should i get you something else?"

Now that the anger was starting to subside, Draco was actually feeling kind of numb. Of course, that might also be the Firewhiskey, but he didn't really care what it was. He shook his head. No, he didn't need anything, besides a slap upside the head, and he was probably going to get that from his father if he ever found out about what had happened tonight.

Only he could get engaged three time in a year, and have each of them end disastrously.

	In a few short moments, Gwendolyn returned to Draco's side with a large glass of water. Settling on the sofa next to him, she slid an arm around his shoulder s and gave him a light squeeze. "I know it doesn't seem like it, but everything will be ok, Draco. Might take a few days, but you'll feel better and eventually, you'll realise that this was for the best." Draco sighed and slumped down in the chair, sipping his water and looking gloomily towards the window. How had he been so wrong about her? He remembered wondering if he'd been slipped some kind of love potion, and now, he had to wonder again if that's what had happened.

No, he told himself. It was him. He let that darkness inside him poison her sweetness. He rolled back his sleeve, to stare down at that mark on his skin.

"It's me. Just like always, I took something beautiful and destroyed it," he said.

"No. Don't be daft. It wasn't you." Gwen said with a shake of her head. She frowned again as she looked at that mark on his forearm. She couldn't exactly comment on it, and so decided to forgo it for the moment. Besides, the more important thing was why usually confident Draco was anything but confident at the moment. "You didn't destroy Pansy, or me, did you? You just weren't right for each other. That's all. It's not your fault."

	He'd been worried, at the start, that he would destroy Astoria somehow, and he'd been right. Nothing, not even the words of someone he trust the way he did Gwendolyn would change that. "I've got some grapes." Gwendolyn suggested as she jumped back up, heading straight back into the kitchen. Heading for the fridge, she paused as she considered the contents. "There's still some quiche from dinner. Couldn't eat it all." She was saying as she pulled out her wand, and flicking it, sent food, plates and cutlery flying.

"You can stay here by the way, the next couple of nights if you need to." Gwendolyn was saying as the food arranged itself and warmed up. It was easier to offer company to Draco than words, she knew full well that anything she said was likely to fall on deaf ears, and she could only hope that just being there would help, if only a little. "There you are." Gwen said as she brought over the plate a few moments later, the piece of quiche accompanied by grapes and a fork.

He hadn't realised how hungry he was until she handed him the plate, and with a soft growl, he wolfed down everything on the plate. Yeah, maybe he did need company for a few days, just to stop himself from his drunken cycle. It was over, for good now, so all that was left was to try and figure out a way of never going through anything so painful again.

"Thanks, and yeah, I will, if you don't mind," he said.

"Anyway, I told Ade that you're here, so it won't be a problem." She said, taking the plate from him once he was done, and levitating it back into the kitchen, to wash it later. 	Draco took the offered hand and followed Gwen to her bedroom. He kicked off his shoes, and flopped down onto the bed, waiting until she lay beside him before pulling her close. Although Gwen rarely wore clothes to bed, tonight was an exception, so as Draco flopped onto the bed, she slid out of her bra and knickers but left on her dress before putting out the lights and crawling into bed next to him. Wrapping her arms around him, she kissed his cheek, whispered a goodnight, and closed her eye, waiting for him to drift off before letting herself fall asleep.

Draco had no idea how long he'd slept for, but it was still dark out. He was thirsty, and his head was pounding, but rather than wake Gwen and ask her for some water and a pepper-up potion, he went in search of it himself. He drank several glasses of water standing up at the kitchen sink before opening a few cupboards. Thankfully, in the skinniest of the overhead units, he found several vials of potions, two of which were pepper-ups. He took one and swallowed the contents in one gulp, before drinking down another couple of glasses.

Temporarily sated, he flipped open his journal, left discarded on the coffee table since he'd arrived last night and was shocked to find an very drunken slanderous entry from his now ex-girlfriend. He angrily scrawled a reply warded to her and was stunned to find that she unwarded it moments later, showing everyone what he'd said.

"Fucking bitch!" he said loudly, throwing the journal from his hands. She was lucky he didn't go over there and ring her stupid neck! What were his parents going to say about this? Like he needed more scandal in his life after the broken engagement, and the mudblood incident! Filled with pent up rage, he went back to the bedroom. Gwen's sleeping form was highlighted by the moonlight shining through the window. Sometime while they slept, her dress had ridden up and he could see the curve of her backside and the puffy lips between her legs. His cock sprang to life and he stripped naked and moved back to the bed, positioning himself behind her and finding her with the head of his cock.
