Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
WHO: Adelle DeWitt and Laurence Dominic.
WHAT: He was a spy. She stuck his brain on a hard drive. They have things to work out.
WHEN: Now-ish.
WHERE: Their flat. And these living arrangements won't be awkward at all. No sir.
RATING: This thread is rated Awesome.
STATUS: In progress.

Things were going better than Adelle expected, stuck in a place like this. Topher was improving by the day, and the River girl didn't seem to be the complication Adelle had feared she might become. It might even be prudent to offer her a place at the house, if they ever made it back. She had a feeling their technology could work wonders for the girl, and even if she chose not to be an Active, she could always make a place for her as an assistant for Topher. Allow Ivy to do more actual work. Yes, that sounded like a good plan. Echo, in spite of her loneliness, seemed to be adapting nicely to life outside her comfortable little world, and Claire had pleasantly surprised her with the decision to stay on as Dr. Saunders, even knowing she was an Active. Alpha and that nuisance Ballard weren't here to muck things up and, all in all, it felt like a nice break from the routine.

Adelle looked up from the book she was reading as her PDA signalled a new message. Apparently, she had a flatmate now. Oh joy. She only hoped that it was someone tolerable. She opened the message and looked at the name of her flatmate on her PDA, frowning thoughtfully. "Well then," she said, moving over to the table against the wall and contemplating the vodka and brandy there, "this is a regular cock-up, if I do say so myself."

Laurence Dominic was stuck in a strange town with nothing to eat and the worst headache he's ever felt in his life. All in all, not too bad, considering the alternative was being stuck in strange room not feeling anything. The PDA he was given upon arrival said he had a new roommate. That was fine; he didn't plan on spending much time here in this nuthouse anyway. No, he was just going to sit down and drink, no small talk, no niceties.

Throwing the door open, he stalked in. He wanted to stomp, to rage, to scream. Every sensation buzzed in his head, overstimulating him and pushing his nerves to the limit. In the end, though, his NSA training took over. He took a few deep breaths, forcing himself to relax, muscle by muscle. Cautiously, he peered around until he caught sight of his roommate.

His fingers curled around the handle of his gun. "Fuck."

"Language, Mr. Dominic," Adelle said coolly, keeping a tight lock on her emotions. There was no need to let Dominic see that he had any affect on her. And he didn't, not really. Was she surprised to see him? Of course. Was his presence enough to break her iron composure? Hardly. It would take quite a bit more than Laurence Dominic to cause Adelle any real distress. Alpha, maybe, but that was only because she was a sane person. Only an idiot wouldn't have a healthy fear of Alpha. Of course, Adelle's was tempered by a strong loathing.

Laurence Dominic. There had been a time when Adelle had trusted him beyond all else. He had been her eyes and ears, right hand within the Dollhouse and her weapon of choice. And she had known, just known in a fundamental way, that he would always be at her side. But she had been wrong. Trusting him again would undoubtedly be a mistake, but so would tossing aside a useful asset. If Alpha showed up, she would need him in her arsenal once more, so she would have to handle this carefully.

"Would you like a drink then?" she asked, reaching for the brandy.

"Language? Is that all you can think about right now?" Dominic couldn't help it, he had to laugh. "Well fuck you. Ma'am." Now, he believed in the laws of cosmic irony as much as he believed in anything, but this? This was too much. If there was one person in the world who could make him crack, it would be her. Adelle Dewiit.

With a motion so tiny as to be almost invisible, he flicked the holster of his gun. He hadn't been aiming for her the last time, but after all this, after the Attic, he was a little quicker on the draw.

"Thought you'd never ask."

"Extreme circumstances are hardly an excuse to forget basic manners," Adelle insisted. Even at times like this, she was British through and through. It was preferable to focus on missed social graces than to actually concentrate on her feelings. They were, after all, utterly irrelevant to the situation at hand.

"Really," she said idly, "you hardly could have expected that things would go any differently than they did. You were a spy. You betrayed the Dollhouse and my trust. And you got caught. It was nothing personal." Nothing with Adelle DeWitt ever was.
