WHO: Annie Sawyer and OPEN
WHAT: Wandering the city
WHEN: Late afternoon.
WHERE: Catch her anywhere you wish
RATING: TBD.
STATUS: Incomplete.

Annie had lied when she'd said she was going to find her room. She hadn't known it at the time of course, but when she'd gone to find the building she'd realised it was pretty pointless finding a room. It wasn't as if she slept after all, so what was the point? Instead she'd walked around the city focusing on not letting everything get on top of her, because if she did well things would get significantly more complicated. Anyway she wasn't that girl anymore. She wasn't the wreck that Owen had turned her into. She was strong and confident. She'd fought vampires and turned down her death for God's sake! Okay so she was far, far away from Bristol, from her home and friends. The things anchoring her down and making her feel safe. But she could do this. She had to. She'd tried asking carious people she met, despite the fact she believed when both Gwen and Abby had told her, but she couldn't help it. She didn't want to be here, this place might have been seriously strange but that didn't mean it would be accepting of the fact she was a ghos. What was she going to do once people realised there was something odd about her? Would she be an outcast like George was always claiming? She wasn't sure she could cope with that again, so she supposed that was just something else she'd have to hope didn't happen.

She was walking around the city, her arms around herself, hands hidden in the sleeves in her long grey cardigan. It was strange being outside for such a long period of time, but what else could she do? There wasn't anything she needed after all, so there was little point in going anywhere, so she just walking, because when she stopped she'd start panicking.

Kairi was wandering herself, something she always seemed to be doing anymore, especially in this new place. She didn't really have much adjusting to do, since she was used to be sucked into all kinds of different worlds, but there were no Heartless here, no Nobodies, nothing. It was very strange, and Kairi was still trying to figure it all out. In the meantime, though, the place didn't seem all bad, and so she tried to explore a new area every time she went out.

She caught sight of a girl walking along in the same way she was, and since Kairi was always eager to meet new people, she thought about approaching her and introducing herself, striking up a conversation. However, the other girl didn't seem to be in such a good mood. In fact, she looked upset, almost frightened. That caused Kairi to want to approach her even more, but for a different reason.

"Excuse me?" she called out from across the street. She glanced around once, then crossed over to place herself almost next to the stranger. "Excuse me, um...are you okay?"

Annie smiled faintly at the question. Looking across at the younger woman, as she made her way over to her. Okay so the people were nice, concerned. That was a good sign. A very good time. "Yeah, yeah fine," she lied. "Or you know comparatively fine. I'm...new, not adjusted yet or whatever. Not that I want to adjust and I'm talking a bit too much, aren't I? Sorry. I'm Annie. Have you been here long?"

"It's okay! Talking is good, it's fine," Kairi immediately replied, smiling brightly when the other girl, who she now knew to be Annie, started talking. So she was new, that was why she looked a bit off and out of place. At least there wasn't actually anything wrong.

"I'm Kairi," she added a moment later. "I've been here for a little while now. But it's really not so bad, honest. Kind of strange, and it takes some getting used to, but there's really nothing bad about this place. You can't leave or anything, but..." She shrugged her petite shoulders. "Did someone explain everything to you yet?"

"Thanks. I tend to ramble, pretty much all the time actually, but especially when stressed so..." she trailed off and gave her another smile. A slightly larger, warmer one.

"That's pretty," she said honestly. "And I'm suddenly aware of how boring my name is." She supposed it was a funny thing to focus on considering, but that was how she coped, by focusing on something other than the bad things that were going on. "Nothing bad?" she questioned, "other than the fact I'm god knows where without my best friends?" She shook her head. it wasn't this girls fault, but she was really quite angry about this whole thing. She needed George and Mitchell. It wasn't the same without them. "No one's really explained anything," she admitted. "Beyond the fact I've been assigned a room."

"It isn't boring at all!" Kairi insisted. "I've never known anyone named Annie before. I think it's pretty. Unique, too." Annie might not have been a very unique name in general, but to Kairi, it was something different. Besides, back home, common names were Sora and Riku and Tidus, things like that.

Kairi frowned a moment later when Annie described to her how she felt about being in this place. She was lucky, she knew. She had her two best friends already here with her, and she was used to the world jumping. Other people didn't have it so easy, and she felt bad about that.

"Sometimes friends show up, though," she said softly. "And you can always make new friends to tide you over, the people are all pretty nice here." A pause, and Kairi decided to explain a few things to Annie, if no one else had taken the time to. "Well, you're in Colligo. It's a city that isn't on Earth, and people are brought here from all different worlds and time periods. No one knows why, and no one can leave, but all in all it's been pretty peaceful, at least."

Annie looked a little surprised by Kairi's response, because really Annie was a very common name, back on Earth at least, which apparently wasn't where they were anymore, but she was trying not to think about that. "Oh well thank you," she replied, managing to recover pretty quickly.

"Yeah so I've heard," she concede. "I just...I wish they were here now." She paused aware she probably sounded like a whiney child. "But you're right. Everyone I've spoken to so far's been nice. It's complicated. They were...special, different. If they don't show up here it won't be the same." She listened to the explainations and frowned. "Oh yeah I did get told that, well apart from the different world's thing. I was sort of hoping there might be a bit more to know though," she admitted.

Kairi frowned a bit more and nodded. "I know. It's never fun to be in a place by yourself, especially a place like this. But you can't let it get you down. They might show up, and if not, there are plenty of people here to help you get through this. A lot of special, different people, too."

Shaking her head, she replied, "No, I don't think so. That's all I've ever been told, anyway. Everytime someone new pops up, I keep wondering if they'll know something different, but they never do."

The last part definitely caught her interest, so far she'd spoken to someone from legends, which was definitely bizarre but they were all human at least. "In what way different?" she asked, hoping she didn't sound too interested, because that might look a little odd mightn't it?

"Well thanks for your help," she replied, "I suppose it might be an idea to just stop asking questions, right? Since no one seems to have any answers."

"Um, well..." Kairi lapsed into silence for a few beats, then continued, "There's people with powers. People who can do really amazing things. There's people from way in the past, and way in the future. And then there are people who are fictional." Kairi didn't like that part, not at all. It was a fact of Colligo life, though, and she figured it was a lesson best learned early.

With a light laugh, Kairi nodded. "Yeah, I guess so. It's hard to do, I know. I always ask a lot of questions myself."

Annie was silent for a quite a few moments, going over everything in her head, what to say, whether she should say anything at all. But the part about people having powers, well tht wasn't normal was it? Even by her standards. "What about supernatural beings?" she asked finally. "You know like...ghosts or whatever?"

"There has to be an answer though doesn't there?" she asked, smiling ever so slightly. At least Kairi didn't seem to be accepting it quite as much as some other people. "I suppose it's just a question of finding the person that can give it."

"I'm not sure..." Kairi replied thoughtfully. "There could be, though. There are werewolves and vampires, so why couldn't there be ghosts, too?" Kairi had never thought werewolves and vampires could be nice, but apparently, they were in Colligo. The ghosts would probably be nice, too, by that logic.

She nodded with a return smile. "Right! I'm sure that someone will come along and know something else."

Werewolves and vampires, okay so in her experience most of them were dickheads with George and Mitchell being the execeptions, but it meant this place might not be so unlike back home, and there was somthing strangely comforting about that. "Well there is now," she said after another moment, smiling over at her. She was fine about the other supernatural beings by the sound of it, so well why lie? Ghosts were more commonly accepted than werewolves and vampires after all. No one really thought you were mental is you'd claimed to see a ghost. There were whol books about it after all.

Kairi wasn't quite sure what Annie meant by that, at least not at first. She thought about it for a moment, though, and then her eyes widened and her jaw dropped a little. "You're...Ohh. Are you a ghost?" She'd never met a ghost before, obviously. Nobodies were sort of like ghosts, but not quite, so she didn't think they really counted. She was also pretty sure Annie wasn't a Nobody.

The fact she didn't have to lie somehow made her feel more together, more whole. Like she didn't need to worry about suddenly vanishing, which was a huge weight off her mind. "I am!" she replied happily, she was aware it was possibly a little odd to be so happy to be dead, but well she really was. "And you have no idea how glad I am that I won't have to hide it. I mean it's not exactly easy, since I can't actually change my clothes ot anything. And that's the sort of thing people notice, right?"

Kairi probably would have felt bad about the fact that Annie was a ghost, since that meant she was also dead, but when the other girl beamed, she had to give a little grin as well. It must not have been so bad, really, and Annie even seemed to be...relieved. So that was all fine in Kairi's book.

"I don't think anyone really has to hide much here!" she replied with a light laugh. "Everyone's usually open about who they are and what they can do, it seems, and no one really has a problem with it." A pause, and Kairi couldn't help herself as she asked, "What happened?"

"Well that's going to make everything a hell of a lot easier," she replied, clearly much happier than she'd been moments before. "Back home it wasn't really like that, I mean it was with some people, but generally well you had to pretend, but then I wasn't exactly visible for quite a while so it was easy for me." Her smile slipped for a second at the question, though she was fine to talk about it was still a little painful. "My fiancé pushed me down the stairs," she said, with a little humourless laugh. "The person I trusted most in the world killed me."

Kairi nodded. That was why she liked Colligo, if for no other reason. Everyone got to be themselves, no matter what. There were so many different kinds of people, all together in one place, for the same reason. Sure, no one knew what that reason was, but it sort of made Kairi feel like she was...connected with everyone in the city somehow. She didn't really tell people that, though. It was something she liked to keep to herself.

When Annie revealed to her how exactly she'd died, the expression on the young girl's face shifted into a look of horror. She lifted one hand to cover it over her mouth, and whispered a harsh, "That's horrible..."

Annie reached forward and rested her hand, slightly colder than a normal humans, on Kairi's shoulder, suddenly feeling bad for putting it like that. She hadn't wanted to upset, really she hadn't been thinking. "It's fine." she assured her. "In a way I'm-I'm glad he did it. Otherwise I'd have ended up married to him, probably with a child and well I wouldn't want to put akid through all that and well it wasn't until I died that I met my two amazing best friends. Seriously, I've lived more since I died than I ever did when I alive."

Kairi gasped a little at the feel of Annie's chilly touch. She glanced over at her hand as it rested against her shoulder, then looked back up at Annie. She was genuinely upset for the other girl, but once again, after hearing the explanation in it's entirety, she felt a little better.

"Well...I guess that's true. Btu still. It's just so...awful. I'm sorry that it happened, Annie."

"Oh god sorry!" she exclaimed, "sometimes I forget I'm a bit...cold," she admitted frowning and pulling her hand away quickly.

"It's awful that I feel in love with such a-a pig," she agreed, having to make a conscious effort not to swear. "But honestly? I'm happy, especially now I'm solid and visible and everything. It's not that bad, once you get used to it."

"No, no, it's okay. I just didn't expect it, that's all." Kairi didn't want to make Annie feel bad, especially after hearing that story. And it wasn't as if it had hurt or anything, either.

Offering a small, slightly wan smile, Kairi nodded a bit. "Well, as long as that's how you feel, then I'm glad, too."

"Yeah I should probably warn people, right? Sorry," she replied. She'd reember next time, now she was apparently being open.

"It is. I know it's weird, like really weird and I'm sure George would call me a bloody mental if I ever told him but...it's like before I died I was just watching anyway, you know? Then I could only watch and it sort of...spurred me on."

Kairi nodded again. "I kind of know what you mean. Before I came here, well...there was a lot of stuff that happened, but even before all that, me and my friends were all stuck on this one island. For some reason, I couldn't remember my life before that, before showing up in the island. My two friends always thought it was weird, but I never really minded not remembering." She paused, laughing quietly. "So it isn't really the same, but I do know what it's like to think of something differently than other people."

It was becoming clearer by the moment that this place really was different, and somehow it made everything easier to deal with. She liked weird, luckily. "That does sound like kind of a nightmare, but I think I know what you mean. If it's all you've known well of course you're going to be okay about it, right? So yeah, I understand. We deal with what gets thrown at us, which at the moment seems pretty handy."

"Yeah, that's what I think. A lot of people -- almost everyone, really -- shows up here and starts freaking out. I didn't, but then again, showing up in a new world you can't get out of isn't new to me, or to my friends. But it's weird to other people." She laughed a little bit once again. "Everyone has a different opinion on what the word 'weird' means in this place."

"I freaked out," she admitted, "mostly because I was pretty sure I was going to disappear again. I need something to...connect to the world you see? Mitch and George and the house, they were what kept me here, rather than...well gone. I didn't want to be invisible again. This has happened to you before then? That does seem a little weird, yeah."

"Gotcha," Kairi replied with a nod and an accompanying smile. "I guess that isn't the case here? I know people can't leave, so that would probably include you, too. But yeah, this happens...quite a bit back home. There are all different worlds me and my friends got sucked into. Heartless were trying to take over, and we had to go to the different worlds to stop them. Well, my friends did. I was kidnapped." She waved her hand dismissively. "But that's not important."

"It's all like a...mental thing, I think," she admitted, "so I hope not!" She listened as she explained her own situation. "That sounds...interesting?" she offered, trying to get her head around it. "It sounds a bit like you might be better off here though, maybe."

"I know, it sounds really crazy. But I think you're right. This place is a lot better. It doesn't have a beach, though, but that's not really a big deal." It had actually taken Kairi a while to adjust to not having a beach to visit, but in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't that important.

"I'm the one that likes being dead, or crazy's pretty relative I think." She laughed at the mention of the lack of beach. "I've barely left the house in two two years, but I did tend live nearish the sea, but yeah I think in the grand scheme of things not such a big deal."
