WHO: Claire Bennet and Nate Ford
WHAT: A first-time meeting and discussion. (As decided upon here.)
WHEN: {Backdated} Monday at 11AM
WHERE: Bookstore near the Grand Library
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In Progress

Between classes at the college, her job, and preparing for lasertag, Claire's schedule had become quite busy as of late. Yet when she realized that she'd never gotten around to helping the sick boy who needed it, she took immediate steps to amend her mistake. Which included, of course, meeting with the boy's father.

Claire couldn't blame Nate for wanting to meet. She was sure, were the situation reversed and she was the one being offered help by a complete stranger, she'd want all of the information she could get her hands on too. Especially if there was a kid involved. So she had no issue with meeting wherever, or whenever, he suggested.

She even made sure to show up at the bookstore a bit early. Not by much - just a few minutes - but early enough that she felt accomplished in her goal. As she stepped inside the shop and glanced around, she couldn't help but wonder if Nate had opted to arrive early as well, or if he was one of those 'barely on time to almost constantly late' type of people.

Either way, she supposed she was about to find out... and that it really didn't matter all that much as long as he actually showed up. She would hate to have some sick kid on her conscience just because their parent decided to skip out on a meeting.

Nate knew that whatever questions he needed to ask Claire could have been asked over the internet. And he trusted Parker enough to know that the way Claire could help him wouldn't hurt his son. However, Nathan Ford wasn't the type to be anything less than thorough, to take the easy way when so many risks were involved. Especially not with his son. Besides meeting Claire, while not ease the awkwardness for her, would at least put both of them at ease with the situation. As much as either of them could be with a situation like this. And Nate wanted to be secure for Sam, not to just fake it.

He'd left Sam asleep but with Sophie. He'd left a note. If he'd a cell phone, he'd probably would have left the number as well. Though both of them would have already had that. Nate showed up early. He always showed up early. Unless a job relied on him showing up late. But generally he liked to be the first one there and the last one to leave. They hadn't designated a meeting spot, so he'd wandered at the back, looking at the books. Not wanting to crowd her the moment she came in, despite the slight urgancy that went straight through him, the urgency he was keeping in control. Sam was fine for now and Claire said she was going to help them. There was no need to play bad cop or put any pressure on it, no matter how much a part of him would want to drag her straight to Sam and have his son completely healthy and cured.

He looked up when the door opened, tending to do so every once and a while. When he saw a young woman that looked familiar to the pictures given on the internet, he approached her. "Claire?" He asked. "I'm Nate Ford."

Claire's smile was a light and easy one as she turned to the man who had approached her. He looked similar enough to the photo she'd seen of him over the PDA that she figured he was who he claimed to be. Extending a hand for him to shake, she replied, "I'm Claire. It's nice to meet you, Nate."

At a lowly-murmured 'excuse me' from some passerby as they made their way further into the store, Claire glanced around and nodded to a small row of circular tables and chairs lined up along one of the walls near the cash register. "Why don't we sit down?" she suggested, meeting Nate's gaze with a slightly arched brow. "Unless you want to browse or something, instead?"

She couldn't imagine he'd want to, not unless he was going to make a beeline for the medical books in order to dispute everything she was about to tell him. Somehow, though, she didn't think he'd be interested in doing that. Clearly he had to have some suspension of disbelief, right? Who could live in Colligo for more than five minutes and still be a skeptic about the strange, supernatural, or downright bizarre?

"Nice to meet you, as well." He said, shaking her hand in return. When he let go of her hand, his eyes moved from her gaze towards the table-briefly-before returning to meet her own. "Sitting's fine. I've browsed all that I've wanted to today." He returned with a small smile. "After you." He stated allowing her to lead the way.

There'd be time to browse when this was all over. Though some books he was sure that Sam would enjoy had caught his attention. He would be sure to come back and by them later.

Moving to the tables, Claire took a seat and waited for Nate to do the same. Her gaze flickered briefly around as they situated themselves, both taking in her surroundings as well as collecting her thoughts. After a few seconds she looked back to man seated across from her.

"So," she began, folding her hands into her lap and shifting a bit in her chair so she wasn't slouching, "obviously you have questions about just how I can help your son. Since I don't really know what my dad has and hasn't told you, feel free to just... ask away and I'll do my best to answer."

That seemed the easiest route, for her. She didn't want to spend any extra time covering things he already knew about, and she imagined Nate likely felt the same way. He certainly struck her as the type who preferred to just get a job done.

"I wasn't told very much." Nate said after he sat down. Not immediately after, however, there wasn't much of a pause either. He had known what he'd wanted to ask from the beginning but he'd waited for her to get situated. "I haven't spoken to your father, it was Parker who referred me to you. She just said it was "something about your blood"." Nate quoted, the theif on his team exactly. "That it cured illnesses ... and stuff." Despite himself, Nate's mouth curved in a mild smile. With anyone else he'd possibly depended more answers, or been more frustrated than he was. And while he was a bit frustrated about how little that had told him, what little information he had going into this, it was Parker. For her, she'd told him enough. And in a way, Nate got that. He'd always gotten it, her straightforwardness, to an extant and had certainly been able to know how to work with it and around it. However, in this situation, he just got it. It wasn't as if there were many choices, and he'd do anything to save his son. And he knew Parker enough that she would never suggest something she wasn't absolutely certain was safe for Sam. Which was why he'd left it at that.

However, from Claire he wanted more information. "I'd appreciated it if you could elaborte on the how and why, and explain more of the logistics."

Claire did her best to keep her expression impassive when he mentioned Parker. She really did. It wasn't easy, though. The jealousy she felt toward the other woman for the time that Parker spent with her dad was something that was constantly eating away at Claire. He seemed close to her, really close, and while Claire didn't know just how, or why, she couldn't help but feel as though she was in some way being replaced. And that bothered her, far more than she wanted to admit even to herself.

Shoving the feelings aside for the time being, she focused instead on the man across from her. A light smile and small nod followed his words. This... this she understood. This was normal, at least for her. And she'd come prepared.

Reaching into her purse, Claire pulled out a straight razor. She'd found it in one of the junk drawers in her apartment - there was no telling why it was there - and knew it would do more to show Nate what she could do than words ever could. So with it gripped lightly in one hand, she met his gaze and quite calmly sliced the sharp blade across her palm, much like she'd done for Alex what felt like an entire lifetime before.

Holding the injured hand up so he could see, she waited for the familiar tickle of the skin re-healing itself. Within a few seconds the wound was gone and the only proof that remained that it had ever been there was a few drops of blood that she wiped off on a napkin. Once her hand was clean again, she looked back to Nate and smiled ever so slightly.

"It's called rapid cell regeneration," she stated with a slight shrug. "I don't age. I don't stay dead. I regrow limbs and heal from any injury. I'm, well, I guess you could say scientifically I'm considered an 'evolved human'. But mutant, freak, just about anything along those lines works as well." Putting the razor away in her purse, she added, "To put it simply, my body heals itself. And in most cases, if my blood is introduced into someone else's bloodstream, it will heal them as well."
