Who: Lily Potter and Severus Snape
What: Eating ice cream and hopefully not yelling
When: Early afternoon, the day after this
Where: An ice cream shop not too far from the housing
Rating: Clean until one of them starts shouting probably

Lily smiled a little as she sat down at a small table with a striped umbrella over it on the patio of an ice cream parlor that she'd spotted near the housing where she lived. The thought of Severus Snape eating a sundae was a comical one. It didn't really seem like his style at all, but she was simply glad that he'd agreed to meet her once more. Their last meeting hadn't gone so well, thanks in large part to her temper. Maybe this time she could have a civil conversation with this man and not pull her wand and attempt to curse him into oblivion.

She did want to be friends with him again, she really did. It was just so difficult, knowing the things that she did. But everyone deserved a second chance, so she was going to try and give Severus the same chance that she was apparently getting in life. If only James... No, no, that was a dangerous road to go down right now. She missed her husband terribly, but she was still in the phase of trying not to think about him too much. It hurt too badly to do so. Instead, she focused on attempting to rebuild her friendship with Severus and with trying to get to know her son, Harry.

She was still a little early, so Lily wasn't concerned yet with the fact that Severus wasn't here. Until he showed up, she pulled out her wand and practiced changing the colors of the sprinkles that adorned the top of her sundae. Then she tried her hand at a charm to keep the ice cream from melting, just in case it took Severus awhile to get here... assuming he hadn't changed his mind about meeting her.

Severus stood outside the ice cream shop Lily had directed him to, and, not for the first time in the last twenty-four hours, thought this was a horrible idea. He had come to the conclusion at their last meeting that perhaps there just wasn't enough good between them, or in him, to give their friendship a second go - that was the extreme pessimist in him. But his one weakness had always been Lily, he would have agreed to drinks if she had insisted, no matter how disastrous that would be. Thankfully she hadn't yet figured out the power she had over him.

He almost turned back towards the housing complex, ready to send her a message saying something had come up, but then he caught the look on her face as she changed the color of the sprinkles on her sundae, the bright and lighthearted simplicity of her every action pulled him to her.

Severus sighed, there was no use standing there with his hands shoved in his pockets, trying to fight the gravitational force that was Lily.

He quickly ordered his own sundae, plain vanilla ice cream with simply chocolate syrup - it was all for show really, he was sure he wouldn't be eating much during this meeting - and then took the seat across from Lily.

"You should change them to green, best color," okay, that was a good start, there was no way she could misconstrue that comment and use it as an excuse to start cursing him.

Lily looked up only as Severus took his own seat, offering him a warm, friendly smile. "Hello, Severus," she said, glad that he'd shown up. She'd have hated to try to keep herself from tracking him down in his room and demanding to know just what the hell he was thinking, standing her up. And she probably wouldn't have been able to stop herself, as terrible an idea as that would have been.

She took his suggestion and turned the sprinkles on top of her sundae a deep green, a shade eerily similar to that of her eyes, though she did so unconsciously. "Hm, looks good that way," she continued, smiling at him and nodding. "Thank you." Hopefully if she kept this lighthearted and calm for the time being, things would work out better than they had last time.

Settled on having the sprinkles be green, Lily tucked her wand away in her pocket and instead picked up her spoon, taking a rather large, unladylike bite of her sundae, the type of bite that a small child would probably take. "Merlin, that's good," she mumbled around the ice cream, not seeming to notice that she was speaking with her mouth full. Some things just seemed to turn Lily into a child again. Ice cream was definitely one of them.

The corner of Severus's mouth twitched in response to Lily's smile, but he did not fully relax, actually, partially relax, Severus never fully relaxed, until she'd pocketed her wand. He then followed her lead and took a small bite, a much smaller bite, of his ice cream. From that one bite he knew in about four more bites and he would be sick of the stuff, his sweet tooth quota would be fulfilled for the day, it was that sweet.

"Merlin's here, you know?" he said after swallowing, not caring about the way Lily ate her own food. He dug his spoon into his sundae, but didn't take another bite, just played with his food. "You might want to come up with a different exclamation. In case you run into him." The corner of his mouth twitched again in an attempt at smiling - he didn't say that to be mean, he was trying to keep the conversation light. He hoped he was succeeding, he knew he would eventually fail and things would fall apart, but he hoped they might get in a few minutes with only the mild tension that came with social awkwardness.

Lily stole quick glances at Severus as he took a bite of the ice cream, glad he was willing to try to fix this as well. She figured ice cream wasn't really his thing, so perhaps it was more of a stretch than she had initially given him credit for that he actually showed up and humored her. She chose to ignore the fact that he was just poking at the rest of his food after the first bite. Pointing that out wouldn't do anyone any good.

Her green eyes went a little wide at the mention of Merlin. "Are you serious?" she asked in a mixture of surprise and extreme amusement. "The actual Merlin? Bloody hell, that's amazing!" And now she was going to have to be on the lookout for him. Meeting the actual Merlin would be one of those life-completing moments for any witch or wizard.

“Well, not exactly, he is not from our reality. He is not as our history portrays him, for example, he spoke of dragons as if they could communicate with humans, and while dragons from our reality are intelligent creatures they do not sit around having tea and discussing the latest theories on transfiguration,” it was becoming easier to talk for Severus.

This was an easy topic - Severus couldn’t see how discussing the differences of realities could go wrong... though, he checked himself, he knew bringing up the lengthy conversation he’d had with Merlin regarding bringing someone back from the dead would not be a good idea. It was merely an exchange of knowledge about their different realities. You simply could not bring someone back from the dead in Severus’s reality, and it was just fascinating that Merlin, in his universe, could - but Severus knew how Lily would take such a simple inquiry.

He picked at his ice cream some more before taking another bite.

“He is interested in learning how magic works in our reality as opposed to his, he would probably welcome anything you would have to offer on the subject.”

He tried another smile, really, a good five minutes and not an angry exchange between them.

Lily may not have known a great deal about this place and all the realities that inhabited it, but she had become somewhat familiar with the fact that there were different realities all coming together in one place. Different times, different beings. So Merlin not being from the same reality wasn't all that shocking to her. Nor did it make it any less exciting. It was still Merlin!

"Me?" she asked, pointing to herself. What could she possibly tell Merlin that he didn't already know? She tried to wrap her mind around the fact that it was possible that she knew something about magic that Merlin didn't, but it was very difficult. Granted, it wasn't the same Merlin, but still. "Well, I'd be delighted to help out, if you think I'd be able to." Perhaps she could recreate the charm she'd used to create the fish for Professor Slughorn. She was quite proud of that one, after all.

She smiled at Severus again. Maybe, just maybe, this conversation would work out between them after all. "It must have been bizarre, to meet Merlin. Most wizards' heads would have exploded," she commented with a chuckle.

"Sure, he might be twelve, or eighteen, what I mean is, he is not the 'wise old wizard' most would assume, he is a kid. And he does not seem to have any formal training, so," Severus shrugged, "why not?"

Severus almost laughed at the idea of 'fanboying' - as the term went - Merlin. Just because there was an aura of magnificence around the boy did not mean Severus was automatically impressed. He now preferred to find out for himself if someone was deserving the praise before he jumped on the band wagon. Severus had learned that the hard way, 'great' men didn't always turn out great. But it was not as if he was going to bring that up now.

He settled on mild sarcasm. "Now, I am trying to fit your question into context. Bizarre like being pulled into an alternate reality that we cannot leave, or bizarre like the two of use talking over ice cream? Because, at some point, living here, nothing seems bizarre anymore."

A Merlin without any formal training. A young Merlin. This place just got more and more fascinating by the moment. "Sure thing, then. I'll help out all I can." The thought of teaching Merlin magic was pretty funny to Lily. She would just have to remind herself that he wasn't the man that she knew as Merlin. Hopefully the fact that he was young and not an old, bearded man would help.

She listened to Severus' comments about what she meant by bizarre. It was true, she supposed, and in fact, she chuckled a little at it. "You know, I'm not sure I know what I mean by bizarre any more." She smiled before she continued. "I never thought I'd see you eat an ice cream sundae, that's for sure. I guess that really is the stranger occurrence here." She laughed again, joking, her smile crinkling the corners of her eyes. She was really glad they did this. They weren't discussing anything heavy yet, simply staying on very light, conversational topics, but that was by far better than nothing. And especially better than shouting at each other.

Severus tried another bite, just one left to go and he would push the ice cream out of the way. "I am fairly certain Merlin's head will explode of you offered to discuss magic with him."

"Hey, I have had ice cream before," Severus feigned shock, "it was served at the Syltherin table too, or did it escape your notice all the way across the Great Hall?" Severus hoped that came out how he intended, as just a mild jab. But he knew he was shit at light sarcastic humor on the best of days, poking fun at someone in a lighthearted manner was definitely not his forte.

Any other person might have been offended by Severus' comments, but Lily had learned a long time ago that he generally didn't mean things the way they might have come out. It might have stung her for a second, but then she tried to take it as she hoped he meant it: simply a joke. She narrowed her eyes as if to glare at Snape, but her lips were still turned up in a smile.

"Of course I noticed. But that was in school when we were children. This is us as adults, sitting in a muggle ice cream shop, eating with little pink plastic spoons." She chuckled and waved her spoon around at eye level. "There's chocolate on your sundae, and a clown painted on the side of the building." Lily began to laugh again, the absurdity of the situation hitting her again. "You have to admit that it's pretty bizarre."

For the first time during their meeting Severus smiled – briefly. It was Lily’s laughter, sure she had laughed previous to that moment, but it didn’t fully hit Severus until then, almost as if previous to that moment it was just a soundless picture show. To hear that sounds again, in conjunction to something he did – sure he did little more than make a few sarcastic comment, but Lily was happy with him, not upset – was the sweetest thing he’d heard in years.

“I concede, I suppose you are right. This is a bizarre moment, and pink,” Severus waived his spoon a bit to make his point, “is not my color.” His face brightened, “Turns out, it is Regulus’s color, though. Pink goes well with Black.”

Lily's laughter changed to snickering when Severus mentioned that pink was not his color. That she knew. In fact, whatever the polar opposite of pink was would probably be what Severus Snape's color was. Pink was not one of her favorites either, but she supposed that it had its place.

However, she quieted a little at the mention of Regulus and how pink happened to be his color. She eyed Severus in mock suspicion before speaking. "What did you do?" she asked, trying to sound stern but failing at it. She remembered what Regulus had done to his PDA. It was pretty annoying. She wondered what Severus could have come up with to get him back.

"Nothing permanent, or dangerous, unless you happen to be a mirror - he might have broken our mirror in the bathroom, and then fixed it, I think. I have no proof, but considering what I did..." the look on Severus's face was that of mock shame, he hardly felt any remorse over what he had done to Regulus.

"In all my dealings with Blacks, the best way to dig at them is through their vanity. I charmed Regulus's hair pink - it was a good look." Severus nodded, an attempt to be serious, "it is a shame he stayed in until he worked the counter charm." Even Severus couldn't help but smile at his handy work.

Lily tried as hard as she could to maintain a straight face. James and Sirius had always been the pranksters, not her. She wasn't all that impressed or amused by them. But the thought of Snape first pulling a prank, and one of such immature lengths, was just too much. The corners of her mouth began to twitch, and soon she dissolved into a fit of giggles.

"That's terrible!" she said, though she hardly sounded as if she were reprimanding him at all. Though, after what Regulus had done to Severus' PDA, he was probably lucky that turning his hair pink was all that Severus had done to him. "Though I suppose he did deserve it." She shuddered again at the thought of the terrible music that had been pouring out of the PDA the day she'd gone over to see Severus in his room.

Lily sat in silence for a second before admitting, "I wish I could've seen it." She snickered again, imagining it.

"Terrible?!" Severus stabbed his melting sundae with his pink spoon - it didn't have quiet the overly dramatic effect he was going for as the spoon sort of slid down the side of the mound. Severus glared at the uncooperative eating utensil before pressing on, "Pink really was his color, I suggested he keep the look, it was very becoming." Severus nodded to add emphasis.

"Besides, as if I would let him charm my PDA to play that atrocious music without consequences."

Severus glanced at the mess of his food, and decided against eating any more. He wasn't so torn up about that, the food wasn't the point behind the meet, spending time with Lily was. "So, have you adjusted ... somewhat? Can anyone truly adjust to this place?"

"No, no," Lily laughed, waving her hands in front of her in mock defense. "It's true, the prat deserved it. I just wish I could've seen it. I don't suppose you got a picture?" She grinned impishly and looked up at Severus again. She could almost imagine Regulus with pink hair, but actually seeing it would have been so much better.

When Severus asked his next question, Lily's laughter quieted, but her smile, for the most part, stayed intact. She released a breath as a small sigh before answering.

"For the most part, I suppose you could say I've adjusted. It's still pretty mind-boggling. Harry and I are going to meet and speak face to face sometime soon. I was just giving him some time to adjust as well. Remus suggested it." She nodded to herself, not entirely sure of what all to say here.

"It gets better the longer you're here. You can kind of distract yourself with all the strange things, you know?" she said with another soft smile.

"Sadly," Severus said, shaking his head, "there is just my memory of it - I am sure I could drag up the memory if you wanted to see it." He doubted Lily would go for letting him use legilmency on her to show her that memory, but offering couldn't hurt.

For a moment Severus thought he had asked the wrong thing, Lily stopped laughing, she was still smiling, that was at least something.

"Yes, I suppose there are a lot of strange things here," he looked down at his melting ice cream, playing with the stuff but not eating, "But, I stay in the library most of the time, muggle books are distracting... though I did play poker with a vampire... so yes, strange."
