If there was one good thing about Annie arriving in Colligo when she had, it was that she had shortly beforehand learned a few lessons that aided her in trying to take care of herself in a strange city filled with strangers. For instance, Sister had taught her how to make a few rudimentary meals as well as order things off of menus. Sister had shown her how to bathe and dress herself daily, too, and had just finished teaching her how to make sure she did it every single day. Steve had taught her how to slide the card in the machine so it would pay for whatever she bought along with a very basic understanding of how money worked. So while she was hardly what society might consider fit enough to be on her own, she was managing well enough.
It helped, however, that her needs were few. Aside from shelter (which was provided), food (which she now knew how to get), clothing (which she needed to focus more on but had enough for now), and items to entertain her (dominoes, paper, and crayons), Annie required very little and was quite easy to please.
Like now, for instance. Following a meal that consisted mainly of pizza because it was both cheap and easy, Annie had decided to get a bit of fresh air. She'd ended up on the roof, her hands filled with a large box of dominoes that she'd purchased earlier that day. After nearly an hour, she had used most of them in a massive display that ran along the entire edge of the rooftop and back to the center, where she was sitting. She had also managed to relax herself enough that she was able to focus on the one thing she enjoyed doing perhaps the most.
Her gaze flickered past one of the lights that was shining down on her from near the door leading to the stairwell. A few flowers were growing, their petals drawn together in sleep now that the sun had set. An arch of her eyebrow and one of the them began to open.
Another few seconds of simply staring at the floral arrangement, and music began to play from inside of it. Soft at first, it swelled until it floated off the roof and across the courtyard beneath before finally getting lost in the sounds of the city traffic beyond.
With a small smile, Annie returned her attention to her dominoes. She eyed one as it floated into the air and moving at the same beat as the music, began to sway to and fro on its way to join the other dominoes spread out before her in a carefully constructed design of which only she understood the meaning.
