CHARACTERS: Marco Hernandez and Katherine Danvers
LOCATION: A coffee shop in the city
TIME: A little while after their conversation
NOTES: --

This place was extremely messed up. She had her parents here, but her mother was only about ten years older than she was. It wasn't supposed to be like that. They didn't know her, they didn't know her habits, or personality. But at least they wanted to get to know her. And at least she had a small part of her Pack here to run with. Her mother was the Alpha in her time, something she'd yet to tell them. But she instantly felt better that at least her Alpha was present. Though she knew the two of them were freaking out over the alpha in their time, Katherine's Grandfather.

She was feeling angsty, cramped, sort of closed in. She was going to have to Change, and soon, it had been over a week for her. She was pushing it, but running in this city wasn't what she wanted to do. She wanted the woods of Stonehaven, where she knew she was safe. It was their land, Pack land, she knew those lands like the palm of her hand. While she had found wooded areas here, it just wasn't the same thing.

With no roommate yet, and handful of parental figures that were in her life, and having hardly met anyone, Katherine was more than ready to get out for a cup of coffee. She didn't know the guy, but she didn't really know anyone here. She had to meet people some time. So she rooted through her mostly empty closet to pull out clothes that were suitable to go into public in. She ran a brush through her hair, grabbed the money she'd yet to spend, her PDA, and headed out the door.

She'd looked up the direction to the shop before she left, and then followed the directions quickly, mostly ignoring the locals who were just a pain in the ass to talk to. She was almost glad more people were arriving, because if the majority of the people here was always going to be locals, she was going to go crazy.

Soon enough she was looking at the shop from across the street. She double checked the address that was on her PDA, and when she was sure it was the right one, she crossed the street and yanked open the door. Stepping inside, she glanced around the coffee shop. Was he here already? There was only so much you could gather from a person from what you see online. Heading to the counter, she looked to the list of beverages for sale, waiting for Marco to arrive.

Marco chuckled as he made his way to the coffee shop he’d found on the map. If any of his friends were here, they would have been getting quite the kick out of his conversation with Katherine. His priorities were still as hilarious as they always had been. One, determine that the godlike entity they’d been fighting was not creating some kind of illusion to trap them. Two, flirt with the hot girl that was helping him. It was nice to know that his apparent – or near, he wasn’t really sure – death hadn’t really changed him.

He couldn’t help thinking that Jake would laugh at this. The others would probably be amazed that he hadn’t gotten laughed at. He didn’t really blame them. Since the end of the war, none of them were all that close, though since Jake had broken out of his emo phase the two of them had been getting closer again. Were they back to being best friends? Maybe not, but they were close. It was the only reason why Jake would be the only one unsurprised that Marco had actually developed some genuine skills with the ladies.

Not that he thought this was anything other than coffee. Marco wasn’t that delusional. Of course, that didn’t mean he wasn’t looking forward to this, for more than the obvious reasons. Even though he’d determined that this was most likely not The One’s doing, it was still a sound tactical decision to try and make new friends and allies. Plus, Katherine didn’t seem to have suffered a lobotomy like many of the locals he’d talked to, which made her infinitely more enjoyable to talk to than the locals. And of course the more obvious reason was that Marco was a sucker for an attractive blonde.

He entered the shop and, right away, picked her out. The tiny little picture on the PDA screen paled in comparison to the reality, in Marco’s opinion at least. He proceeded to the counter and leaned against it, propping himself up with one elbow. He was close enough that he wasn’t shouting across the room, but still far enough back that he wasn’t invading her personal space. “Hey!” He grinned at her. “I’m glad you could make it.”

She was constantly aware of everyone around her, but she had made it a habit not to turn and look over every single person who got within ten feet of her. At least not in an obvious way. When he started talking, Kate turned her head from the list she was reading, a bright smile coming across her face. "Hey!" she said just as brightly. Just because many of the other pack members avoided outsiders, unless they were flirting with girls, didn't mean she had a problem with juts being social. "I'm glad you offered. This place is about as exciting as watching water boil." she said with a shrug. Or that was how it was proving to be anyway.

What always surprised her was when people who just arrived here remained so calm. No, she hadn't freaked out herself, much, but you'd think there would be some people really panicking that they were now trapped in some city and couldn't get away. It made things easier, at least, not having to deal with the crazies, but it just seemed so unnatural. Even if unnatural was the definition of her life.

"Welcome to Crazytown." she said, her smile turning into a smirk. "Where the locals don't tell you anything." she said the last world in a slightly louder tone, her face turning to look directly at the woman standing behind the counter. The woman just kept a pleasant smile on her face, looking at her, and then looking away like Kate wasn't glaring at her. After a moment, she shook her head, turning back to March. "It's kind of frustrating." maybe eventually someone would be able to scare them enough, or find some way to force the truth.

"So, Marco, what were you doing before you were so rudely abducted? Was there actually some kind of war?" she asked, curious. She wasn't going to pry, but she was actually interested. Being dragged here from in the middle of some kind of fight had to be a bit of a shock.

"Well, it's better than where I was." Which was on the bridge of a starship that was ramming another starship. "Although it is a lot less exciting. Less life-threatening, though, so that's a plus!" The first sign that he wasn't just some random shmuck was how cavalierly he talked about life-or-death situations, especially concerning his own person.

When she glared at the clerk, Marco joined in, having already had a few experiences with the locals when he picked himself up off the library steps and made a few preliminary investigatory visits to places nearby. "Crazytown," he nodded, "population: A whole bunch of useless locals that are really jonesing to drive the sane people crazy." His tone left no doubt that he found it just as frustrating as she did.

He rocked back on his heels, stuffing one hand into his pocket. For a moment, the old instinct to come up with a cover story came to mind, but he pushed it aside. The whole world knew about the war where he came from, what harm would come from telling her? "What was I doing before I got here? Crashing our starship into the bad guy's ship. I'm hoping that didn't start another war. The war I was talking about, though..." He shrugged a little. "When I was fourteen, my friends and I stumbled upon a battle between two alien ships going on over an abandoned construction site. The good guy was pretty much screwed, but he gave us...a weapon we could use to fight the parasitic alien slugs trying to infest and invade Earth in secret."

He didn't tell her about the morphing. No one doubted the intentions of the Animorphs back home, but people who had no clue who they were might be a little hesitant to trust someone who could acquire their DNA and morph into them. "We were the only ones that knew the truth, so we decided to fight them. It was guerrilla war at first, and then a new slug was put in charge of the invasion and it became open war. We won." For just a moment there was a flash of something in his eyes, but he squashed it down. "So there was at least one war, and possibly a second one with...something else."

There was a change in her face when he started talking about life threatening situations. Her eyes became sharper, almost more aware. As the child of the Pack Alpha and the only known born female werewolf, she wasn't a stranger to life threatening situations. Mutt's were idiots, they never backed off. She was some kind of prize to them, but they always seemed to forget just who her dad was.

She glanced to the clerk again, somewhat annoyed, before ignoring her. She searched his face for a moment, trying to figure out if everything he was saying next was the truth. She drew in a strong breath, not making it obvious, and picked up his scent, memorizing, sorting out. There were smells there she didn't recognize, and it made her more curious. "You're serious." it wasn't a question, but a statement.

"Aliens." she said flatly. Aliens? As apposed to werewolves, demons, vampires and witches? Sure, why not. She could go with it. At the very least he didn't seem to be lying, but he could just be very good at it. Maybe he was just crazy, but she wasn't picking up on that either. Kate, or all people should know that anything was possible. "Like...actually slug aliens. As in the ones that people tell stories about sucking onto your brains?" she said, her finger tapping her skull for a moment. "Or like, massive slugs?" she didn't know weather to believe him or think this was all some elaborate story. He didn't seem to be lying.

She stared at him, her face clearly displaying her mental inner battle with herself to decide if she was going to believe this or not. Part of her just said it was insane, but then the part of her that lived in the Supernatural world knew it wasn't that far fetched. Finally she reached some conclusion. "Alright, sure, why not. Captain Kirk is here, why not slug aliens." she shook her head slightly, the information still trying to sink it. "Tell you what, let's get the coffee, and then you tell me how you actually managed to win that?"

Marco could tell she was scrutinizing his behavior as much as she was his story. She's pretty sharp. I'm impressed. Most people would've just called me crazy. He considered for a moment and then very slightly tilted his chin upwards. It wasn't really a challenging gesture, but it conveyed just a little bit of pride and confidence. It was a deliberate gesture to convey that he was absolutely serious.

It only lasted a moment and then he returned to a more relaxed posture. "The first kind," he nodded. "They would crawl in your ear, break through into your brain, and flatten themselves out into the nooks and cranies of your gray matter. After that, that's it. No secrets, no privacy. They have access to all of your memories and have total control. The host can fight them off temporarily, but it never lasts." There was absolutely no indication that Marco was lying, because he wasn't. He had a completely straight face and he looked her dead in the eye as he explained, not wavering once.

Then she said the words Captain followed by Kirk and Marco's eyebrows rose, at first in disbelief and then, as he took in the fact that she wasn't lying, shock. "Captain Kirk? Seriously?" He laughed and ran one hand through his hair. "Holy shit, this place really is Crazytown. Wow." He couldn't help chuckling as he turned and glanced at the menu. Captain Kirk. Oh man, this place is crazy and some kind of awesome. "And sure, I can regale you with my heroic war stories," he added playfully.

His face lit up when he saw a chocolate drink was offered, and he grinned. "Well, I know what I'm getting."

Her own chin raised when his did, it just happen, naturally. She was too dominant, it was instinct. Granted, she wasn't an Alpha, she'd back down to Jeremy, her parents and some of the older pack members anyway, but she always reacted to challenges or defiance. After a minute, she decided she getting the meaning behind his body language, and relaxed.

The idea of little things crawling inside of her brain was enough to make her cringe, the fact that they could take over was just positively disturbing. What would happen if they got a hold of someone like her father, or Savannah? All that power in the very wrong hands. Or maybe those people who weren't human would have a way of fighting it off more than humans, or a way to keep it from happening. Then again, maybe they just didn't exist in her world, which was fine with her. Because this story? Never happened in her reality. "That's got to be the sickest thing I've ever heard." she said, "Sounds like a living nightmare." some people dreamed about alien invasions, right? That had to be their worst situation. And she definitely had secrets she didn't want out there.

"I guess so. Seems to be him, unless it's just an entire band of sci-fi geeks banding together to do that thing where they all dress up as their favorite characters." she said with a shrug. "But I think it's really him." She'd never watched Star Trek, but she wasn't an idiot, she knew about them.

She smiled, turning to lean against the counter and look at the list again. "Uh huh, well I should warn you that I've heard a long list of impressive stories, so I hope you're a good talker." the endless stories she'd heard from her parents about zombies, humans tapping into magic, vampires, Mutt's, even Jack the Ripper. She'd heard some of the best, not that they ever got old.

The caramel latte was going to have to be what she as going to get. It was something she just couldn't say no to. "Yep, me too." she said, giving the waitress the most forced smile of her life. Sometimes she wish she was more like her dad, with the ability to just be a complete bitch and not feel bad about it at all. "I'll take a medium Caramel Latte." When she got back to her room she was going to have to get something to eat. She'd be starving by then, and since she ate nearly double what a human would to be full, she wasn't about to buy herself anything here.

"Hey, do you think maybe some kind of aliens took over their brains?" she suggested with a smirk as she looked Marco and nodded to the women behind the counter while her back was turned, obviously completely kidding. "Turning people in drones." which made sense in her mind, that was what happen in fiction, anyway. "So how did you beat them anyway?" she asked with interest as she waited for her drink to be made.

He noticed the motion, but figured it was only natural. It had been perhaps a slight gamble to make a challenging gesture to someone he was only just meeting, but he felt it paid off. Besides, he'd been through a lot in the war, and he wasn't going to tolerate people calling him crazy for knowing it.

"You have no idea," he told her, and there was a flash of something in his eyes that he quickly squashed. After a moment, he explained, his voice slightly quieter now. "Someone I cared about was a host to the head honcho." He didn't go into more detail then that. He still wasn't fully comfortable with the fact that his mother had been a host to Visser One, and that her death had been faked by Visser One to allow her freedom of movement during the invasion.

"LARPing," Marco chuckled, and shook his head. "Nah. Most people aren't going to hold on to that act if they're in a situation like this. I'm sure there's some big psychology term for it, but most people are going to freak out in this situation. Unless they're used to situations like this, but in that case they're probably going to have the good sense to drop the act long enough to figure out what's going on. So chances are, he really is Captain James T. Kirk."

Marco laughed and relaxed against the counter. "Well, I could tell you about the time I had to be the wheelman in a high-speed car chase while in the form of a gorilla. Or the time we morphed ants and were almost taken over by the hivemind instincts. Or the many, many fights we had with these reptilian aliens with blades all over them the Yeerks were using as host bodies for their shock troops. Or the time I almost died while in dolphin form after saving a whale from some sharks." With a grin, he explained, "The weapon we were given was the ability to morph into the forms of living things we acquired. We got all the instincts of the form we morphed."

He ordered the chocolate drink, then pulled out the necessary bills for both of their orders and handed them off. He bit back the joke he was going to make about whether she even knew what to do with the money. "Thanks." It took all his willpower to thank the lady, and his tone was pretty flat when he did.

Katherine may have meant it as a joke, but Marco's mind began turning that over. He tried to keep it off of his face, but she might have been able to pick up on it. ...There were Yeerks that escaped the final battle. And they did take up worshiping a...very powerful entity. This was troubling. Could this all be a Yeerk ploy? He'd have to comb the city for Kandrona pools. "Probably not," he laughed, doing his level best to be convincing.

"As for how we beat them, well...I don't know if we could have, if Visser One had stayed in charge. But after we freed my mom from Visser One and killed it, Visser Three was promoted to One and put in charge of the invasion. He was much less subtle and turned it into an open war." He shrugged a little. "After that, certain things got easier, because we had more allies and more freedom of movement. At an age when most people were taking driver's ed, we were orchestrating the final battle that would decide the fate of the world." He sobered somewhat as he went on. "We destroyed a valuable resource, something necessary for Yeerks to survive on Earth. Then we launched an attack on the ship containing the only other source of said valuable resource. We used an android friend of ours to drain all the systems." Marco didn't mention Jake flushing most of the Yeerks out of the Pool Ship. He didn't want to have an argument over whether a necessary tactical action was an act of genocide or not. "There was one other thing that needed to be taken care of, and our leader...took care of it." He didn't feel like discussing the moral issues implicit in sending your cousin on a suicide mission to kill the Yeerk controlling your brother by killing him, either. It may not have been an easy call for Jake to make, but Marco was certain it was the right one, even if it had resulted in Rachel's death. And Marco knew Rachel would agree with him. "It wasn't pleasant," Marco said, by way of summary, "but we did what we had to do, and Earth survived."

She didn't say anything about someone important to him being under control of the slug creatures from hell...or space, whatever, but her face softened slightly. She knew what it was like to have people you loved at risk. Her parents were at risk all the time. Not so much her mother in her time, since she was always protected, but growing up they were always going off to deal with one problem or another. She didn't push the subject.

She blinked, slightly amused by the idea that they Captain Kirk was here. "I think I saw some people straight out of Star Wars as well. I'm half tempted to lock them all in the same room and get them fighting, just to see who would actually win." and then next time she actually heard a heated debate about who was better, she'd know the answer. Not that she heard the fight often, but there had been a couple of movie marathons that held some serious heated debates, mostly with Kate keeping her mouth shut, because she had no idea what they were talking about.

What her started saying next had freeze, watching him carefully with her mouth agape just slightly. She didn't even notice when the lady half put the latte right into her hands. Morph? Animals? Holy shit. was what was going off in her mind. Was that what she had smelled? "Wait, wait. You change?" she asked, slightly stunned, "Into animals?" but it was more than one animal, which definitely didn't make him a were-anything. There was no such thing as a pan-were. Just werewolves. But then again, that was going by her worlds rules. Her mouth opened and closed for a moment, as if she was trying to process the information.

"Thanks." she said with a glance to the woman when she finally realized the drink in her hands. But her attention didn't stay there long. "So what? No offense, but changing into animals isn't exactly a human characteristic. What are you?" when she said she didn't sound rude, even if it kind of was, that wasn't her intention. She looked curious, fascinated almost. Sure, she could change, but only into one animal, and it hurt like hell. Not that cared. She loved being a wolf, even if the instincts never left her.

It was about that time she reached into her pockets and pulled out money to drop on the counter, not even really caring who paid at this point. He changed shape. He wasn't a mutt, and he changed shape. No. Freaking. Way. "Come, sit." she said, motioning to an empty table and heading in that direction. She just wanted to get this all figured out. That way she could decide if she needed to worry about this guy, or not. Her family didn't take people who could change lightly.

It didn't take an idiot to put together that his mom had been the one he had just mentioned. The one close to him, but she didn't say the connection out loud. She listened to his story, but honestly, most of it sounded like something out of a television show. But she wasn't going to judge, or say that. It was his life. It seemed unreal to her, but she didn't think he was making it up, which meant it was real for him. Katherine wasn't a stranger to death, people being killed, or seeing people being killed. Violently. But nothing of this scale. Her Packs work kept Mutts, and other supernaturals from running wild, and the world was safer because of it, but that was all. Nothing on this scale. "Jesus. I'm not taking this lightly or anything, but that story should be a movie." she said seriously. Her face was completely serious, she wasn't kidding or making fun of him in anyway. "And that would be why you asked me about Yee....Yeerks?" not entirely sure she was saying it right.

Marco laughed at the idea of locking a Jedi in a room with a Starfleet officer. "Well, one guy has a lightsaber that can cut through anything and the Force, the other guy has a phaser with two settings. I enjoy Trek more than Wars, but smart money is on the guy that can cut through anything and choke you without even touching you."

He blinked owlishly, taken aback by her reaction to his talk about morphing into animals. He decided that, for the moment, this was the most important subject of discussion. There had to be some reason she'd reacted like that, and while he didn't need to know the reason, he did need to know that it wasn't because she was affiliated with one of his enemies.

He held up a hand and shook his head as she started to pull out the money. "I got it," he told her evenly, pulling out a bit more money and handed it to the waitress. "Wouldn't be a gentleman if I didn't keep to my word, now would I?" There was a hint of playfulness there, but he was also fairly serious now. He took his tasty chocolate drink and followed her when she headed for a table.

Once he'd plopped into a chair and set his drink down, he turned to the subject of her questions. "Okay, this isn't quite in the order that you asked them, but it's easier to explain it this way. I am human, just altered by technology. The weapon the good guy gave my friends and I was the ability to morph any living biological entity that we acquire. The acquisition process requires two things: Physical contact, and a conscious initiation. It's not like I bump into someone and automatically acquire their DNA. I have to touch them, consciously choose to acquire them, and maintain physical contact during the duration of the process. It's not just animals, either. I can and have morphed human. This ability is technological in origin, though. There's a cube involved. We had to touch it, and it altered us to give us the ability."

He sat back, lifting the drink to his lips and taking a sip. He winced and put it back down. "Yeah, okay, that was a bad idea. Needs time to cool." He chuckled, considering her comment about the movie. "Funny you should mention that. Guess who helped Spielberg do just that?" He grinned at her. "After the war, I was sort of the go-to guy for interviews. Everybody else was either too busy or too messed up, so I became the face of the Animorphs. That's what we called ourselves, Animorphs. I was all over TV and the net and I got my memoirs published, so I was the natural choice for consultant for the movie."

"Yeah, well, tell that to those people who get in heated debates over it." she said with a shrug, not that she really cared either way. But her money was on the lightsabers. They just looked badass in every way.

She shrugged, not really in the mood to argue over paying. She was way to interested in what he had said. But still, she still grinned back, slipping her money into her back pocket of her jeans once again. "If you insist." she said lightly, brushing it off. "Thanks." she added, if he was going to be nice enough to pay, she could at least say thank you. Maybe the next they ever decided to go for coffee could be on her.

The idea that someone could take her DNA was kind of...not good. It got her wondering that if someone were to do that, would they get everything? Her abilities, her senses? The need to Change at least once a week? Her face was skeptical for a moment, in her opinion, altered DNA made you a little bit less human. But maybe he was still considered human in his world, she couldn't argue that. "If you were in my world, you'd definitely be counted among the Supernatural population." she said carefully, watching is face to see if he was going to pick up on the hint.

She lifted her own cup to her face, blowing gently on the steaming drink to help cool it down. Katherine arched an eyebrow, grinning as she sipped the drink carefully, winching and lowering it when it was still to hot. "Ouch." she said, licking her lower lip. "Spielberg, seriously?" she asked, not expecting that at all. The whole world knew about them, and didn't have a problem with their abilities? The people were more excepting in his world than hers. Not that she'd ever want to be known. "You should have told me I was dealing with someone famous. I would have milked you for more than a coffee." she teased, knowing full well she'd never do that. Actually, she probably never would have bothered to talk to the guy if she'd known he was famous. To high profile. Jamie Vegas was here only exception, and only because her talents were legit.

"Believe me, I've dealt with those people. They constantly tried to argue that the character I played on TV was just a ripoff of Beast Boy from the Teen Titans." He smirked and added, "I always shut them up by reminding them he was originally on the Doom Patrol."

He shook his head and waved it off. It was no big thing to him. Money hadn't been an issue for him in a long while, and even though it had registered, he didn't mind paying. She was good company, and she'd been helpful. Plus she seemed like someone he could grow to trust.

Marco watched as Katherine digested the information he'd just provided. His head tilted slightly, gaze unreadable, after her statement. Supernatural, huh? Guess where she comes from, all that actually exists. "Understood. And what would I be in for if people who considered me supernatural found out about my ability?" He sat forward now, settling his elbows on the table and tenting his fingers in front of his face. The look on his face made it very clear that he was picking up what she was putting down, so to speak.

"Spielberg, seriously." Marco grinned at her. "What, and sound like one of those people that brags about their social status? Please." He snorted in a mix of derision and disgust, all aimed at that particular type of person. "If I ever get like that, you have my express permission to kill me."

Kate's brow furrowed, trying to recall just who he was talking about. Teen Titans rang a bell, and so did Beast Boy, but Doom Patrol was lost on her. "Yeah- those comic and cartoons, right? Never read them, and that show was off the air before I was born." she said with a shrug. "Or maybe I was a baby, one of the two." Either way, she knew next to nothing about the show, or the character. She didn't spend a lot of time watching cartoons anyway, she had always been too full of energy to sit down for that length of time.

Trying her latte again, she found she was able to take a sip, and not have her mouth burned off. Drinking a little, she held the warm mug in her hands, enjoying the feel of it. "Really weird." which was the truth. "But still not classified with humans. As far as I know- and I have a pretty good idea, the only thing people can Change into are wolves." or werewolves, if he was going to catch on to that. It was pretty obvious, in her opinion, but that was just her. "One animal, that's it." so he'd be different, but sort of the same.

"If we're actually stuck in this place along enough for me to see that to happen, I'll be killing someone." she said with a grin, though she didn't know if she was half serious. Sure, she lived in the city when she went to school, but she could still go home to Stonehaven, and the woods. And she had found herself a decent forrest in Ontario as well where she was safe. So far, Kate wasn't thrilled with the wood areas here. "But noted, if your head inflates, I'll deflate it for you." she kept her voice light, smile on her face. Though she really would, because people like that annoyed the hell out of her.

"Comics, yeah." His brow furrowed. "I didn't know there was a cartoon. Huh." For the first time, he began to wonder how far into the future she was from.

He considered that for a moment. Werewolves. Okay, he could roll with that. That wasn't quite what he meant, though. "What I mean is, is my ability going to cause...problems?" His eyebrows rose just slightly. He was trying to ask whether he was going to have to sleep with one eye open without actually asking. Asking it would be rude, but it was still a concern that he felt important enough to attempt to address. "I don't plan on using it on anyone, at least not without express permission, but I understand the rules of various realities can differ."

He chuckled and, finally, reached down to take a sip of his drink. Muuuuch better. "Well, I'm sure there are already people trying to solve this 'stuck' problem." Marco had a few ideas about that himself. None of which he was willing to share quite yet. He had to get a little more first-hand information about the problem, first. "Thank you. Hollywood is full of sycophants. You get tired of it after a while. If you're sane, I mean."

"Yeah. I watched two minutes of it once on line. It was kind of lame." but again, she found most television lame, so she was a tough critic. It was nothing against the show.

"I seriously doubt they're going to care." she said, slightly amused. She couldn't figure for the life of her why any of them would care, or why he would be worried. The only one who would be slightly affected by it, that she could think of, was her dad, who got annoyed by a lot of things. Hardly anyone was safe from him. "Uh yeah. Taking someones DNA like that isn't something that happens in my world, I don't there are rules relating to that." she said with a shrug.

"I'm sure there are. I can't see any of them solving that problem though." Someone had been strong enough to bring them here, and the way she saw it, they had to have some way of keeping them trapped, otherwise why bring them at all? No way would they trap someone who was just going to ruin it all. "You fight off aliens, and it's the psycho celebs that get to you. That's just slightly amusing." grinning into her coffee, she covered a laugh by drinking a little more, though the humor was still written on her face.

Marco chuckled. "Most comic cartoons can end up kind of lame. The problem is that the audience grows up, but the cartoon never seems to. It's the same problem with long running young adult book series, really. Very few recognize that the audience won't be kids forever." Yes, Marco actually did pay attention to the literary community, from time to time.

He nodded, making note of what she said. "Just making sure. I didn't survive a war without developing a healthy sense of caution," he laughed, taking another sip of hsi chocolate drink. "Y'know, the locals may be lobotomized wastes, but they can actually make a good drink." Marco actually sounded amused about that.

"I'm sure there is a solution, somewhere. But it's going to take a lot more information than we currently have, as well as some serious strategic planning, to stand even a ghost of a chance of getting out of here." With a shrug, he added, "Even if there really is no way out, it's better to keep the illusion of hope up. It keeps morale from nosediving and keeps people from feeling hopeless. Plus, as long as we have hope or the illusion thereof, we can probably keep everybody generally working together and playing...not nice, necessarily, but not hostile, either. Playing tolerable, maybe."

He smirked at her. "Aliens make sense. Crazy celebrities, in most cases, don't," he laughed, clearly thinking back to some experience he'd had in the past. "Oh, yeah, I don't know how far in the future you're from, but Tara Reid is going to have kind of a crazy drunk period. Calling it now." After a moment, he added, "Now for me being 2001."

"I don't know, I've met some fifteen year old boys trapped in fifty year old mens bodies." lots of people acted like giant kids, and some men in the pack were nothing but players. Just because they looked young didn't mean they were young. Usually they managed to shake off that habit, but sometimes she would swear they did a better job at 'channeling the inner child' rather than 'channeling the inner beast.'

She cocked an eyebrow, smirking slightly. "We don't bite." she said. "...much." she added when she thought about what she said. At least not people who didn't deserve it, and it wasn't like he had done anything. Actually, she kind of liked him, he was interesting. "Starbucks is still better though." but she had to agree it wasn't bad at all. Another sip brought her to nearly half way done, the liquid just at a perfect temperature for her.

Kate shook her head slightly, frowning. "I know people with powers to rip open the very fabrics of time and space, if they really wanted to. If they haven't found us yet, I don't know what will." Savannah had to be going crazy, and Jamie had to be bugging her connections with the really powerful people for help. Yet nothing, they were still here. "It's something really powerful keeping us here, it has to be." that was the only reasonable explanation she could think of. "I dunno. I think I prefer the truth. That or I just don't want to hear it. Guess that's just what I'm use to." Either her Pack would tell her what was going on, or they wouldn't, but there was no illusions of lies.

She blinked, setting down her latte, but still holding it with one hand, and leaned back, one leg crossing over the other. "Last I checked, most celebrities have crazy drunk periods. But you're right, she does." she said with a smirk. "Her and many, many others."
