Sophie was startled when the girl covered her face, feeling a surge of apprehension. She certainly didn't want to scare the girl, but she also didn't want to leave her by herself. Someone else might come along who could hurt her. Sophie harboured no illusions that everyone in this place was safe or harmless. No, she felt a certain sort of responsibility toward the girl, for the moment at least, and she wasn't about to leave her here alone.
"Right then," she said, "it was rather rude of me to not even introduce myself first. My name is Sophie." She wasn't really sure what else to say, and it wasn't often that she found herself at a loss in a conversation so she didn't know how to proceed, but she did know she needed to do something. "This place is called Colligo. From what we've been able to figure out, it's not on Earth, and we're all brought here...well...somehow. We've not quite figured that one out yet, I'm afraid. Why don't you tell me your name, sweetheart, and we can try and see if we can find someone you know...if anyone you know is here. Unfortunately, whatever it is that does this doesn't always bring more than one person." She sighed. "I'm rather lucky, I suppose. The people I care about are here. I hope that it's the case for you."
She smiled slightly. "Why don't you let me help you? You shouldn't be alone in a big city like this."
