WHO: Buffy and Dawn Summers.
WHAT: Sisterly bonding with ice cream.
WHEN: Evening.
WHERE: The apartments and then an ice cream place.
RATING: Most likely G or PG.
STATUS: In Progress.

Dawn was evil, Buffy had decided. Ice cream tempty evil. The picture of the sundae had completely destroyed any resolve to be responsible this evening, and she had decided that ice cream would make a perfectly acceptable dinner. Yeah...she totally sucked at the good role model thing. Oh well. Dawn was old enough to know that ice cream was not a food group, and therefor should not be every meal. And Buffy really wanted ice cream, not to mention she wanted to see her sister. So, all in all, it worked out.

She knocked on the door of Dawn's apartment, idly wondering why she hadn't found more time to spend with her sister, since they were only two doors apart. She didn't have an excuse really, beyond utterly failing as a sister. "Dawnie," she called. "We're getting ice cream, because you're an evil ice cream tempter." Okay, that probably could have come out a little more mature.

Dawn was quite honestly having fun in Colligo. There didn't seem to be any major catastrophes going on like there was back in their own reality, and that in itself was something to be glad for. And then, there were so many people that Dawn had thought were fictional, and now they were real, and that was beyond cool. Okay, so she was apparently fictional, too, but she'd gotten over that pretty quickly. She'd already found out once that she wasn't actually real, so maybe she was just used to it.

She was just pulling on her sneakers when she heard the knock at the door, followed by Buffy's voice coming from the other side. With a grin, the girl bounced up to her feet and opened the door wide. It felt a little weird not to actually be living with her sister, but it gave Dawn a bit of independence, and she kind of liked that. She'd missed Buffy, though, and she couldn't wait to hang out.

"I had to do it!" she exclaimed, moving out into the hallways and closing the door behind her. She would have invited Buffy in, but she knew they both just wanted to get out and get that ice cream. "You might not have come if I didn't dangle that picture in front of your face."

Buffy had steadfastly ignored the idea that she could be fictional. She was good at ignoring things that screwed up her world view. Besides, it was possible that with all the alternate realities here, she was only fictional in some realities. And that was a lot easier to take. But that was entirely not the point, because the point was ice cream. And ice cream was way more important than pondering her own existence.

When Dawn opened the door, Buffy immediately hugged her. "It's really good to see you," she said. She hadn't even realized how much she'd missed having her sister living with her until then. "How's it feel to be all independent? Are you enjoying it?"

"And I would have come even without delicious picture dangling," she assured her sister. "I've missed you. And the promise of ice cream, even without pictures, is always enough to get me somewhere." She grinned at Dawn. "Ready to head out?"

Truth be told, even though Dawn had always had that desire to branch out on her own, live her own life, it was a lot harder to do than she'd ever imagined. She'd lived at home her entire life, either with Buffy and their mom, or Buffy herself after their mother had passed away. Really, she'd always been with her sister, and now, she wasn't. It was weird, to say the least.

Dawn returned Buffy's hug with a tight one of her own, grinning from ear to ear at the sight of her. This place didn't seem all that dangerous, but she still worried about her sister, even if she was older, a slayer, and a lot more capable of taking care of herself. Dawn knew some of Buffy's coping tendencies, though, and thus, the worry.

"It's, you know, it's cool. I live with a witch, isn't that awesome! She's not like Willow, but she's still got the magicky thing going," she said, babbling on excitedly. She wanted to share everything with Buffy all of a sudden, as opposed to wanting to keep things from her. Maybe that had something to do with not living together anymore.

"Missed you, too," she admitted, beginning to lead the way towards the front doors of the apartment building. "And now I know a surefire way to get you to do whatever I want." She cackled evilly and wrung her hands together.

Buffy understood that sentiment. It was still hard for her to adjust to not having Giles and Xander around, and not living with her sister was just one more major change to adapt to. But they had each other here and Willow. And Spike and Andrew and Lindsey...even if Dawn didn't see Lindsey as part of their group yet.

It felt good, hugging Dawn. It made Buffy feel warm and fuzzy inside to know that her sister was safe. Though this place definitely wasn't as bad as home, it still had plenty of dangers, and she'd never forgive herself if something bad happened to her little sister. Luckily, she was here to keep said bad things from happening. After all, what good was a Slayer if she couldn't keep her sister out of trouble?

"A witch, huh?" Buffy said with a grin. "Is she a good witch or a bad witch?" But she was joking. She'd watched The Wizard of Oz the other night and some bad jokes couldn't be resisted. "That was really bad. What's she like though? Is she nice? Are you getting along with her? She hasn't...I don't know...tried to sacrifice you or anything?" See Buffy. See Buffy be overly protective. In her defense though, experience had taught her that not all witches were good.

"Not whatever you want," Buffy said quickly. "I'm not going to let you...I don't know...rob a bank, or get a tattoo, or date a guy with tattoos, just because you give me ice cream. World doesn't work like that, unfortunately." She smiled, glad for this moment of normality.

"She's a good witch," Dawn replied immediately, wanting to make sure there were no suspicions of her roommate being some kind of evildoing baddie. "Her name's Paige, and yes, she's nice. Very nice and we get along and I even keep my areas extra clean for her. Aren't you proud?" For as much as Dawn had always wanted independence, she still found that she wanted the approval and respect of Buffy. She still wanted to run off and tell her sister all of the things she'd been experiencing lately, all of which were good and not anything of the dangerous variety for once, at that. She just had to chalk it up to being a sister thing and accept it.

Dawn gave a dramatic sigh as they left the building. It was a nice day, and Dawn knew an ice cream parlor wasn't too far away. They could easily walk it. "Okay, I wouldn't wanna rob a bank, and I don't think I'd ever get a tattoo. But come on, Buffy, all the cute guys have tattoos! You're totally running my options for a boyfriend right into the ground if you cut out tattoos. Pretty soon you'll be saying no to piercings, too." In all honesty, Dawn didn't even know anyone with tattoos or piercings in Colligo, but that wasn't the point. She was Buffy's younger sister, and as her younger sister, it was her job to freak her out about these things.
